Texas A&M 2006 Schedule

Sept. 2 THE CITADEL
Sept. 9 LOUISIANA-LAFAYETTE
Sept. 16 vs. Army (San Antonio)
Sept. 23 LOUISIANA TECH
Sept. 30 *TEXAS TECH
Oct. 7 at *Kansas
Oct. 14 *MISSOURI
Oct. 21 at *Oklahoma State
Oct. 28 at *Baylor
Nov. 4 *OKLAHOMA
Nov. 11 *NEBRASKA
Nov. 24 at *Texas

We are are certain to receive grief for this schedule being too easy or at least the non conference schedule being to easy. Normally I would prefer a tougher non conference schedule. However, I think the non conference schedule is what the doctor ordered for this team in '06.

Other thoughts...

We should head into ttu 4-0 playing them at home. Glad to see ttu played at the point in the season that they should be (early October). ttu at the end of the season makes them look like a marquis game....for which they are not... regardless of the scores the last few years. I digress.....

At first I was not happy about playing Army in San Antonio (home field advantage, Kyle Field, etc). After thinking about it, during a time of war....its the right thing to do for all the A&M grads in the military as well as the West Pointers. As we all know, San Antonio is a big military town.

I'll avoid overall predictions (for another thread) but feel this schedule is a very good schedule for the '06 A&M team. It sets up very well for a team that has great potential.

Looking forward to September 2.

Merry Christmas

Why not schedule Navy, Air Force and the Coast Guard while you're at it?

I doubt we'll receive too much grief given we probably won't be receiving votes at the beginning of next season. Tech didn't take as much grief as I thought they would for their schedule last year (which was worse that ours next year).

It just happened this way this year. Until we start backing out of series with big oppenents, we just have to accept the non-conference schedules of last year and this year.

This wasn't a home game to begin with. We were always the "away" team for 2006. It might be interesting if Bill agrees to play the 2008 game in SA as well (since we already have 4 non-conference home games scheduled).

A brutal end of the season it is....

I agree with you...but OU and Nebraska are at home...which helps. Of course if we play like we did this year...it won't matter.

arent all discussions about schedules, wins/losses, championships, and bowls moot as long as Fran is your head coach?

u guys need to make a move up front and save yourself another embarassing season.

Just what the doctor ordered is right. We will have a fine season next year. We might not beat the teams we would like (OU, tu, NU/TTU), but we will win 8-9 games.

Who is going to be giving us grief? People always way overvalue what they think the media, or opponents will say about our schedule. Unless we are undefeated at the end of the year competing with a couple of other undefeated teams for a BCS or MNC bid, I honestly don't think we'll see much mention of a soft OOC schedule at all. Somehow I don't see us getting quite to that level next year.

I think this sets up great for the moral. If we loose to Tech, texas, OU, and Neb we will be 8-4 and the momentum for 2007 would be great. Fran would have the ship moving in the right direction.

Please put down the egg nog. If we finish like you say above, Fran should be canned on the spot.

How can another 0 for November be a step in the right direction?????

To me, winning against LA direction schools and losing to the real teams is stepping backwards.

I know what your point is and I agree, but for future reference....a directional school is one in which their name starts with a direction.

With that schedule, we had better be 9-0 going into the OU game.

I for one am ONLY worried about what happens in the Tech, Neb, OU, and tu games. Win less than 2 and I'm afraid the nationwide coaching search is on.

I have to agree with BQ. No way we can except anotehr black November and say we made any kind of positive move forward. IMO we must win at least one of those and should win two! If not we should be looking for a new leader.

Minime,

SHHHHHH! We Bears like it when the Aggies overlook us. Promises of getting murdered by the Ags the past two seasons have worked out quite nicely for us.

I know that as a Baylor fan, y'all aren't going to take my opinion seriously, but FWIW, every year, non championship teams usually win 1 or 2 games they shouldn't and lose 1 or 2 that they shouldn't.

Ags schedule seems to break down into four categories:

Non-Conf: (4-0)

Pencil them in as wins (2-0): (Okie St & Mizzou)

Might win/might lose: (Neb, Kan, Baylor) Kansas, Baylor, and NU have all shown steady improvement over the past 3 years while the Aggies have shown signs of regression over the past 3 years. I really don't see where all the aggies are penciling in these games as wins. Following the "win some you should lose, lose some you should win" observation, you'll either go 2-1 or 1-2 in this category.

Games you will be underdogs in: (OU, TT, UT) best case is probably 1-2 with better than even odds of going 0-3.

Frankly, I don't see where this schedule makes 9-3 a given. It will be a struggle for the Aggies to get to 9-3 next year and it could very easily be 7-5.

Also, I would stop focusing on TT, OU, and UT as the make or break stretch of the season.

IMO, Nebreska, Kansas, and Baylor are going to be the games that make or break your season. At this point in time there is no reason to believe that the Texas A&M football team is clearly superior to any of those 3 teams and lose anyone of those games and the coaching staff will be under fire and virtually assure an 8-4 season...

But, to the original point, please continue to overlook Baylor.

If we go worse than 2-1 against tt, OU, and t.u., then we did not have a "fine season".

We didn't make a coaching change after the 2002 season to go 2-10 or worse against that trio of opponents over the next four years and finish 4th in the south.

Even though it was close, and Baylor mainly dominated the game, you do still realize that you lost last season, right?

while those of us not wearing marron agree with this assessment, u are going to get eaten alive for predicting TTU to be favored @ Kyle.

wont happen. ever. especially now that they have been replaced as the second best football school in Texas. and no im not saying its TCU

truer words were never spoken, my friend. Baylor is definitly making strides right now. Guy Moriss is a good coach and it wont be long for you guys. A&M is terrified of falling further than they have and it eats the sh*t out of them knowing that Tech is better than they are and Baylor is closing the gap.

my advice, even though u werent really looking for any, is to sit back, relax, and enjoy another marron meltdown in 2006. we've got great seats...

Not all of us "know" Baylor is going to be a door mat forever. Tech has passed us up, Baylor and Kansas are coming up quick - and yes, the Ags look inept (and that is kind).

WE are the targets now, WE are the ones that Baylor and Kansas are circling on their calandars as "make-or-break" wins. Heck, tech is starting to look past us on the schedule.

I trust Fran knows our situation. Ours is a bad place to be - the once proud program that is getting weak and lagging behind the herd. We had better gain some strength because the wolves are nipping at our heels, and they are motivated by our situation!

Lonestar, I realize that Baylor lost this year at Kyle, I felt sick to my stomach on the drive home after that game.

But in retrospect, for both Baylor and A&M, that game was the "lose one you shouldn't and win one you shouldn't" game of the year.

Just like A&M fans took a lot of positives out of your loss to UT this year, Baylor fans take the road loss at Kyle as a positive.

Dexter_Rutecki

I love that Aggie charm. They take an overall good performance from a Freshmen QB in a big game that was still a loss and deify him for it but God forbid some other school takes positives out of a loss...

That OOC schedule is a joke.
Cecil10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
Baylor81, the difference is that baylor is taking positives from a loss to a good program, but to a team that has been down the past few years and a team that fielded a horrible team this year. That is fine and it is a positive for baylor. But it is understandable for the aggies to take more away from their last 7 quarters where they played solid football against a good and upcoming OU and they out played the #2 team in the nation.
The aggies will revamp and should improve seeing as the defense cannot get any worse than it was this year and the young offensive stars (Lane, McGee, and Bennett) all proved that they can perform with the best at this level. What will be interesting to see will be how this rising baylor team comes out next year losing a significant amount of key defensive starters. Even with Morriss' coaching I'd have to say that without a drastically improved offense or some young defensive players emerging that baylor may find itself back at the bottom of the South and knocking on the cellar door next year.
Cecil10
How long do you want to ignore this user?
I don't agree with having this OOC schedule and it is poor, but it is very similar to what many teams are doing these days due to the BCS system. A hard non-conference game just isn't worth the risk anymore because a close loss there is a garunteed ticket out of the MNC.

Also FSU dropping A&M due to conference realignment really put the aggies in a tough position. At this point it wasn't possible to find another top tier or quality opponent for this year, I just wish they would have gotten someone better than ULA LA. But FSU was certainly a better opponent than teams like ttu will schedule. Oh well, I guess we'll just have to wait for the Miami series in '08.

Unbelievable to call that a fine season. If we had been happy with that, we would have kept RC. If we don't beat ANY of those teams we need a MAJOR change at the top!

"But it is understandable for the aggies to take more away from their last 7 quarters where they played solid football against a good and upcoming OU and they out played the #2 team in the nation. "

Actually, no it isn't understandable.

Your Aggie breathern were just trying to explain to me that "a loss is a loss".

Appearently, a loss is just a loss for every other program in the country, but if its an Aggie loss, its really more than just a loss.

Sorry, (like most things Aggie) it isn't understandable.

But I know, I know, this is probably just another case of "If you're on the outside it can't be understood, and if you're on the inside it can't be explained"....
