quote:
Warn your running back not to fumble the ball into and through the endzone, just before crossing the goal line for a sure touchdown, like A&M's Greg Hill did against Florida State.

If your ball carrier fails to heed this warning the harsh ruling will again be: ball comes out to the twenty and possession goes to the other team.

To this day I have never understood that. When it happened, the fans in the stands went nuts. It was some magically created Cotton Bowl ground rule that has never been enacted before or since.

SECTION 6. Touchback
When Declared
ARTICLE 1. It is a touchback when:
a. The ball becomes dead out of bounds behind a goal line, except from an incompleted forward pass, or becomes dead in the possession of a player on, above or behind his own goal line and the attacking team is responsible for the ball being there (A.R. 6-3-9-IV, A.R. 7-2-4-I, A.R. 8-6- 1-I and II, and A.R. 10-2-2-XXXIX) (Rules 7-2-4-a and b).

Stay close, Fair park is in the GHE-TTO. That said, it'll be fun, especially the night before. Just stay north of I-30 and you will live.

If you ride DART you just need to purchase a premium day pass for $4.50 at the rail station, you don't have to wait to get to the shuttle location, which this year is at the Pearl Station, not CityPlace.

Fast Fred(from another Freddie): I'm pretty sure (98% certain) the guy that tackled Dickie Maegle (sp?) was from Alabama. Really strange play. Of course, they will replay it during the CB as they always do.

BTW, I should know how to spell Maegle as I played baseball with both of his sons. I don't get many chances to name drop.

The fumble through the endzone touchback rule is the dumbest in all of football. I mean what is the reasoning behiind that? Anywhere else on the field when you fumble you get it back where it goes out of bounds. If you fumble out ot the endzone you should get it on the one.

Skihorn, yeah, I was being facetious.

Tommy Lewis was the tackler and he was a player for Alabama.

I was just having fun.

Thanks for the correction on spelling "Maegle," I edited it.

Gig 'em, FAST FRED '65.

Before the world wide web, village idiots usually stayed in their own village.

We parked at West End and rode the DART train and bus to the Cotton Bowl. Took about 20 minutes total and wasn't bad at all. I would recommend that.

We were told by many "informed" people to get up early and get there as soon as you can to avoid horrible traffic and possibly missing kickoff. That couldn't have been more wrong!

We got there a little after 7:30, expecting more around 9:15. Two of the guys went back to sleep in the truck while the rest of us threw a football around and drank.

I guess if you're actually cooking you could use that much time, but all we had was liquid refreshments.

actually, traffic is pretty bad unless you know the back ways to go. in addition, make sure you look for the old lady in her house coat taking pops out of her "breakfast flask". Oh yeah, watch out for DeeBo, because it literally looks like the sound stage where they filmed Friday.

I'd say the Friday neighborhood is several steps ahead of the fairpark/South Dallas area. You can be sure to see several houses with no roof w/ mercedes in driveway. DO NOT make a wrong turn. We did once and got a tad lost when I was about 19.... all I have to give you is a quote that rang through the night air: "You're gonna m---f----'in die, cracker!"

We stayed in the RV lot. It had excellent security--had the extra parking pass so my son could drive over and join us. There is a small parade the day before on the cotton bowl grounds--nice to see if you are already staying there. Traffic post game seemed worse than pre game since everyone was trying to leave at the same time.

Don't park except on the fair grounds--ride public transit shuttles if you did not get a parking pass.

We had a great time in the RV lot. Was there three nights. No problems except a con woman that made the mistake of coming through the lot a second time claiming to be out of gas and needing money for gas. She convinced me and I gave her money the first night. Didn't work out nearly as well for her the second night.

If you have kids, see the parade. Also had some "swan" paddle boats operating in the park. Also, a science museum there. Great trip except the game.
