I know that Murray played from '83-'86 but he looking at the record books I get the feeling he didn't play in '84. Is that correct? what happened?

I know that Bucky played from '87-'91 but obviously that is 5 years so what years was he the starter and which were Pavlas?

And Pullig, he was listed as playing from '92-'95 but had big seasons in '93-'95. Did he play much in '92?

Thanks for the help....

As a freshman Bucky split time with Craig Stump in 1987. Bucky was hurt in 1989, that's when Pavlas was starter. Pavlas played some the next year too, but Bucky was primary.

Murray broke his ankle real bad and missed a year. It was absolutely disgusting to watch on television. Craig Stump filled in nicely.

Pullig played a bunch in 1992 as freshman, maybe half the snaps. I think Granger was starter at beginning of season though. Believe that Granger had a few nagging injuries and Pullig stepped in.

Bucky started some in '87 and pretty much full time after that except for either '89 or '90. He tore his ACL against Texas the year before and they red shirted him the following season.

Birdman, I was at that game when Murray tore up his ankle...I can STILL see him hurdling the pile. From the stands, we had no idea how hurt he was.

But you're so right - on replay it was downright gruesome! Still one of the nastiest images in sports (along with the broken leg of Theisman.)

Kevin Murray played in the first 3 games of 1984, but broke his ankle at the end of the 3rd quarter of the 3rd game.

Bucky injured his knee against tu in 1988, and missed the 1989 season.

Granger started the 92 season, but Pullig replaced him in the Louisville or SMU game and was the starter the rest of his career.

Thanks for the help....

Check my memory here old Army but didn't Murray blow his ankle against Arkansas State in 1984? AKA known as the debut opponent of the Franchione era?

Was talking about all of this with a couple of friends a few weeks ago and between like 5 rabid Aggie fans, we still ahd to go to the web to find out. We came up with this after looking at some old boxscores...drop me a correction if you see one.

I think David Walker started some games in 1974 and then redshirted in 1975 --- something like that. I tried to check on this but couldn't find a source.

1991 was 90% Bucky. Granger played in garbage time. He also played against Tulsa because Bucky was hurt.

that I recall, it was all bucky...not sure why I have that like that.

Bucky's last game was the Cotton Bowl on January 1, 1992 against Florida State. Jeff Granger wasn't the starter that season (unless Bucky was out for a game or two that I'm not remembering).

Edit: Ah, Birdman has it. Tulsa, that's right.

Jeff Granger got a concussion against SMU in Dallas and Cory Pullig took over from there.

Yeah but Granger had more than an inury wrong with him I never saw a guy throw the ball so hard. Too bad it was always at the receiver's feet.

then you need to watch Reggie throw a 10yd pass, Boozoo

Hey, in 1988 Chris Osgood started at least one game, the Texas Tech game at Kyle.

In 1987, Lance Pavlas, Bucky Richardson, and Craig Stump all started at some point, all had their moments, and some not so good moments.

Wasn't Granger the QB during the 1991 Tulsa debacle? That is still one of the weirdest games I've ever seen.

Yep, Granger played the '91 game vs. Tulsa. The Ags hade a big lead but let Tulsa back in the game and lost (I think it was 35-34). That was a good Tulsa team. I think they went 10-2 that year, same record the Ags finished with.

I know, "if ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."
But if Bucky had played the Tulsa game, and if we were able to score the two TDs we squandered in the Cotton Bowl vs. FSU that season (with Greg Hill fumbling at the one yard line and a receiver (usually sure-handed Tony Harrison?) handn't dropped a pass in the end zone, we might have beat FSU 14-10 and finished the year 12-0. We were that close. And Washington and Miami tied for the national title that year with a loss.
I know A&M finished 12-1 in 1992, but I still think that 1991 team was the best Aggie team of the modern era.

he ulsa game was weird because we started an all freshman backfield with Granger, Hill, and Groce. Bucky, Doug Carter, and Randy Simmons were all hurt in the LSU game the week before.

David Walker played much of the '73 season as a freshman 17 year old QB; took over from Mike Jay for the TCU game and finished out the year as starter. Started all of '74. Quit the team for the '75 season because a guy named David Shipman from Odessa Mojo "beat" him out - Shipman never really panned out as a QB though. Came back to the team in '76, started all year. Started most of '77 games except for the final games of the year, UH @ Kyle and the Bluebonnet Bowl against USC - gave way to freshman phenom Mark Moseley. Moseley turned out to be a semi head case and didn't pan out too well, either.

Walker was a tall skinny white boy, left handed, semi out of place running Emory Bellard's T-Bone then Wishbone offense. Usually needed a haircut like most the rest of those boys back then. Won lots of games. No idea what happened to him after his last game at A&M.

Didn't Lance Pavals start in the 1988 Cotton Bowl and have a big game in their 35-10 win? Or was it Bucky. I can't remember since I was a pedestrian observer and it was ages ago.
