Thank God we were on probation still, and it didn't really cost us a major post season bowl in an otherwise undefeated season, if I recall. I was a fish in the FTAB at the game...that was a sad thing to see..

In 1994, SMU was 1-9-1

In 1995, SMU was 1-10

How did we let those guys hang with us?

Let's not forget that we lost to Baylor last year.

A&M should soundly beat SMU this weekend... but we cannot afford to overlook anyone. We need quality games with quality production from our squad so that we can get as many players as possible out on the field.

I'll be looking for a few things:
-- Established Running Game
-- Clock Advantage (via running game)
-- No Turnovers
-- Back-ups Play the Entire 4th

oh, that day was miserable in SA. The very reason you ask how they could have hung with us, is the very reason this thread is applicable. This was my biggest gripe with RC. However, he didn't lose many of these games. Although that tie was a loss in my book.

ULL (or whatever the hell they were called at that time) & that SMU game were my lowest points as an Ag until Norman 03

If anyone underestimates the Ponies this weekend, then they haven't been paying attention to A & M athletics over the past 5 years. A flagship university in a talent-rich state should dominate lesser teams like SMU. However, when was the last time the Ags had a label as a "lamb-killer" ?
This is a program that is on a 4 game losing streak. Based upon A & M's access to a load of talent, I would EXPECT the Ags to bury some of these weaker teams. As part of the 12th Man, we should DEMAND a better performance. That being said, reality says that they will probably sleep-walk their way through 4 quarters of football. As much as possible, this team needs to play at a maximum level to help offset the shortage of athleticism, coaching and the overall attitude of the entire athletic department. I just hope that the glare of regional t.v. dosesn't cause too much panic and fear for RM and the over-rated WRs and d-linemen.

I think anyone rolling their eyes at this must only be under the age of 22-23. You wouldn't roll your eyes if you had been in the Alamo Dome that day.

If we have another one of those losses then we really need to just fire away...We had OU in 03, Baylor last year and if we struggle or lose against SMU or Baylor this year we have gone absolutely nowhere...

If Fran loses to SMU he should be fired before he even has a chance to leave the stadium. Hell, if he lets them even hang in the game the same thing should happen.

Losing this game would mean we are bad, period. I have confidence that we will beat them soundly, as I expect our team to be focused and ready. Taking anything away from SMU's win over TCU other than the fact that OU just isn't OU this year is probably a mistake. TCU beats a team that struggles with TULSA and likely will get beaten by UCLA this weekend. If 10 year old teams' action meant anything, wouldn't Baylor have 7 wins coming this year?

We shouldn't overlook SMU, but then this really shouldn't be a close game either. We should win by 3 TDs.

This is sad. We lose by 1 to a good Clemson team we should have beat, and now people think we're gonna struggle against SMU @ Kyle.

It would be very theraputic for me if the Aggies scored at least 60 points on these guys Saturday. Let's get Reggie out at halftime, and let's give some of the backup QBs some game experience.

I was at the TCU/SMU game on saturday, and SMU didn't really look all that good. TCU just looked horrible. Their offense couldn't do anything, they missed field goals, failed to convert 4th downs, shanked punts. TCU started on the SMU side of the field the majority of the time, and they just couldn't do anything. The offense only scored 3 points, the other 7 was form a kickoff return.

I don't really think the SMU defense or offense was all that stellar. Bottom line they just played harder.

The supposed "cream-puffs" (SMU, Texas State, Baylor) coming up on the Ags schedule are starting to shape-up as interesting opponents.

I cannot disagree more. However, if this is true, your team is much further away from where you want than you will admit.

Guys, these teams suck and if you don't pound them into submission, you guys may indeed be bad.

Get through these 3 games, show very little for CU to scout, and stay healthy.

Your combined scores will total 150 and these 3 guys won't score 40.

Try to remember that most people in the country think your team were top 15-25. One loss will drop you out of that group since it was in week one, but you are still the same team.

I think you will fine. Quit over-thinking the Clemson loss.

if we were to lose to SMU, our athletic dept would never see another penny from me. And I wouldn't go to another game until Fran is fired.

Moderators:

Please pull all these ridiculous threads on losing to SMU.

For God's sake, you will win by 50. SMU is terrible. All this does is waste server space. Guys, you lost one game on the road by one point!

SMU is still SMU. If you played them 100 times with only the players redshirting and walk-ons, you still win by 2 TDs.

If A&M loses to SMU this weekend, at home, then we clearly have the wrong coaching staff in palce.

We should blow out SMU, BUT, if our defense doesn't make the stops, as was the case many times during the Clemson Game, then the game will be much closer than we would like.

I still think we can pull out 8 wins this year. The Offense will start firing on all cylinders, but the big question mark, in my mind is the aggression of the defense, minus the goal line stands we made.

Hey guys. Not coming over to flame on your board, but in the interest of good competition, I thought you should know...

SMU has stockpiled a lot of talent under Bennett. For the last two years, we've had the youngest team in NCAA football. Now those kids are starting to grow up. And Martin isn't the only recruit we stole from you.

You guys have pleny of reason to be cocky; I certainly don't expect lightning to strike twice, especially not on the road at Kyle. But if you watched SMU's season opener vs. Baylor, you would realize that if it weren't for a pretty strange run of bad luck (specifically two un-forced fumbles and an inexplicable call on 4th and 5), we would have beat Baylor and be sitting at 2-0 right now. We're a faster, and more athletic team than Baylor, and I believe they gave you a bit of trouble last year.

I expect a decent game, not a blowout.

Expect to be disappointed then.

Not a flame.. Just the truth..

If we had beaten Clemson and y'all had lost to TCU I would be more concerned than I am now.

A loss to Clemson means we are looking for redemption and y'all beating TCU means you have our full attention. Not a good mix if you are a pony fan.

We have lost one recruit to SMU in the last 8 years. The tall skinny OL from Dallas High.
We never seriously recruited Martin or anyone else on the SMU roster.

This will not be a close game.

Again not a flame just facts.

MK, the fact is, is that we do alot of talking and no winning. WE, in fact are a team that has become complacent and more and more accustomed to losing. I dont see us blowing SMU or anyone else unless coach Fran adjusts our defenses mentality. Perhaps he watched tu's and ohio state's defense play saturday and got some tips on HOW TO HIT SOMEBODY.

Sorry to disappoint, but I plan to fully discount SMU. I expect we should be able to run 5-6 different plays on offense and beat them. If not, we suck.

Don't be surprised to see Demyron Martin do very well Sautrday. He was one of the best runningbacks in the DFW area two years ago and I couldn't believe he went to SMU but he wanted to stay close to home. He is very fast, I don't know where the other poster got it that he wasn't. Runs a lot like Dickerson did. He had a very good game against Southlake Carroll two years ago in the playoffs. Not saying SMU will win but Martin is very good.

I'm class of '96 and was in attendance for both the SA tie and the Pullig to Connell gamesaver. I don't know how the 2005 Aggies would do against the 1994 and 1995 Aggies, but I do know that SMU can't be any worse now than they were then.

We should and will blow these guys out, but I've seen enough weird sh*t in college football to worry about every game.

if fran doesn't take down SMU by 30+ with even a meat and potatoes version of his offense, you're going to start to hear grumblings.

he needs to inflate reggie's numbers, work out the kinks in the passing game, and get the D some confidence...all w/o injury.

i'd also like to see mcgee in for grins late in the game.
