He's right at the top of my all time favorite Aggie players. Here's a guy that has no quit in him. He's great person all around.

Dat's how you represent A&M with class.

He pops up on J-Lo's show on 610 from time to time. Always love his interviews.

When your likeness is rendered on the outside walls of Kyle, you know you're one of the true bad muthas to ever to suit up for the Ags. Went to the LSU game, after many years of not going to a game.... Saw that and thought, "they got that shiz right!"

Dat Nguyen epitomizes "want to" in a ballplayer and class in life.

He's one helluva an example for all those who've been told they can't do something when they believe they can.

We need some Dat clones. And not just for football

OP, that's a great story. Thanks for sharing it. My Dad saw Dat walking into a restaurant in CS as he was walking out, while he was still with Dallas. A kid tripped over the curb and fell into the parking lot, and Dat went over, helped him up, asked if he was alright, and then rejoined his wife and went inside for some grub. My Dad was impressed by this young man's behavior, and was surprised by how huge the guy was, and how beautiful was his wife, and how kind they were to the kid. He didn't initially recognize Dat, but knew he looked familiar. After Dat was through the door, my Dad said, "Damn! That was Dat Nguyen! What an incredibly nice guy. Good Ag."

Dat is a first rate Ag!!!

In honor of Dat being on Texags radio today.

My boys are 13 and 22.

I have a copy of his book and the Priest that married him and his wife also married us. Priest said that Dat was very gracious to sign memorabilia to be auctioned off the day of his wedding! I thought, come on.. but that is Dat, always thinking of others.

Dat was the first "Rock Star" player I was ever witness to. Level of Aggie legend only seen by guys like JFF, Von and Acie. Dude was such a big deal and big time player.

I was just thinking about this today.

I had him sign a football for my sons, the youngest was 4 days old.

He's 20 years old now.

He's a great Aggie and Texan. I grew up in Corpus Christi and my family used to buy shrimp from his community of family shrimpers in nearby Rockport. He has quite a life story of his family escaping Vietnam.

I have to share my Dat story while I was attending A&M. We were the same class. During my underclassman years, Dat played a lot of hoops at the rec center.

We played in a rec hoops league off season and Dat played with a group of his football buddies


We absolutely destroyed his team. 5 white guys who happened to know how to play ball. My bro played in state champ in HS and eventually walked on A&M hoops. We were all pretty good players.

Dat was a horrible sport. You could see the pressure cooker. We eventually made a sweet play that ended in a dunk.

Dat ran over to my buddy and shoved him as hard as he could in the BACK. Obviously, he went flying.

After that, never liked the guy. Piss poor at losing. Once he knew we were all better, he starting adding a little LB action into the physicality of the game. Never backed down of course. We left the court with one very, very pissed off Dat. He was always that way on the hoops court.

Having said that, it was a single personal experience on the basketball court with the guy. Being such an elite athlete, guy clearly wasn't use to losing.

And I have heard so many great things about him as a human. A LOT of them. We also were young teenagers too. Just glad I got the better of him in a sport! If I saw him now, I would give him a hard time about it.....I know he will never forget that beatdown. Lol! GigEm.
