Not lost interest due to NIL?

Have y'all not list interest in college football with the whole thing? Our QB sucks, ok throw a lot of cash at an other guy for one year. It makes it so generic I can't get excited for college football at all. Of course I'm getting older and priorities change, but the fun of watching your team mature together over 3-4 years was a huge part of the allure. Now it's guys that have played for 3 schools in 4 years.

My interest has definitely waned the past few years. I've been following Aggie football since 1975, had season ticket since 1996. We always split tickets with friends (we go to some games, they go to the others) due to work - fall was always a busy time.

This year, we haven't seen a single game in person yet. Sold three games, gave two games to family members and donated the tickets for another. It looks like we will only attend the tu game this year.

Part of the reason is age - but also for reasons you stated - the good players are only here a year or maybe two. And I know they are only here for the money, they probably don't really feel anything for A&M.

I've thought about stopping the season tickets altogether, but I hold on, just in case lightning strikes and we do really well.

It has for me. Thinking about NOT renewing season tickets next year.

I'm mostly excited before the start of every season after I get fed all the fake news about how awesome we are. Most seasons the excitement wanes quite quickly when I realize our big NIL fund makes no difference.

Pretty sure my interest this season is lost due to the 4-4 record.

But that actually speaks to a bigger issue. College football for most of its history was a regional game where the most important thing was beating your rivals and maybe winning your conference. There were good seasons and bad ones but every game mattered because of traditions and pageantry and school pride.

College football was ruined when too many fans were convinced that the only thing that mattered was the national championship. From that flows conference realignment and money ruling everything and the destruction of historical rivalries and regional cohesion. It was inevitable that if the national championship is all that matters, money would be the only thing that would matter to get there.

All things change eventually, it's inevitable, good and bad. But I definitely don't like the change, but accept it for what it is. Hopefully one day it'll change for the better as well (which it will, albeit a different better). But love college football (a true hobby of mine) so will continue to enjoy it in whatever form its in until the change ceases it to be fun for me. And I can see where that has happened for many people, but not for me yet.

Interest has definitely waned the last few years. I'm at the point now where the losses don't bother me that much. Apathy for the whole sport - Saturday used to be must see TV no matter the game. Got a lot better things to do these days.

This has been one of the most exciting football seasons overall in a long time. If you can't recognize that past your self loathing, then it must really suck to be you.

I've lost interest mostly because the transfer portal. It allowed players to come and go as they please and promoted mercenary-behavior.

Kids are playing football here not because they like A&M but because they want to get a quick buck.

NiL has nothing to do with it. I've lost a lot of interest because of sucking year after year.

To be fair, I essentially stopped watching all sports a few years ago. There aren't enough hours in the day to spend time with family, do work on the property, lift weights and train, and of course work. So TV overall is limited in priority. But I used to make time to record the game and watch at night a few years ago, but the last few years just don't care (didn't watch a game last year as well which then my Aggie coworkers forbade me to watch later in the season to not jinx it).

My level of interest went down by about 97% when we let espn buy their precious a spot in the SEC, and I heard the good old ags start spewing the same old "I don't care if we win another game all year, as long as we beat the t-sips" line of garbage I had heard for so many decades before 2012.

Lost another 2% with the nil /unlimited transfer portal insanity. So my give a spitter is currently running on about 1%.

The new NIL rules, the transfer portal, and conference alignments have turned major college sports into professional-like leagues. The conference leaders are prioritizing TV network revenue over the welfare of athletes and fans. The athletes are no longer students, and college education has become an afterthought. Many traditions and rivalries have been eliminated. The only sustainable solution is to implement multi-year contracts and penalties for breaking them. Still, I will stay interested in the major Aggies sports until I die. My excitement level fluctuates, but I will never lose interest.

My patience with Aggie football is as thin as our porous secondary. 30+ years of seeing the same goddamm thing, but more money. Of course im still interested but there are a thousand better ways to spend my remaining time on earth.

The "If you criticize the overall state of college football and/or specifically the A&M program, then you obviously self-loathe" has long been one of the sunshine pumpers' go-to talking points.
It makes zero sense, but they spew it like Pavlov's dogs in response to rational, common sense observations.

It's right up there with telling critics of our chronically underperforming program that they "must have miserable lives."
Uh no, I'm actually quite happy at work, and laughing with friends, and enjoying my hobbies….but that doesn't disqualify me from making observations about obviously flawed aspects of our program that always results in a garbage product.

It's a weird dynamic and the fact that it's been a pervasive response since, oh roughly 2003, speaks volumes on its own.

I'm losing interest in people losing interest in CFB so loudly on a college football board. Can we create a special board for people to share their feelings about lost interest?

The "If A&M isn't performing up to your expectations and you still find anything enjoyable about college football, then you're obviously a sunshine pumper" mentality has long been a favorite of the miserable pot banging crowd.

It makes zero sense, but they spew it like Pavlov's dogs anytime someone dares suggest that college football can still be entertaining regardless of A&M's performance.
Of course, these people will tell you they're perfectly happy. They go to work, laugh with friends, and enjoy their hobbies. But you can see it in their eyes. The bitterness is always there, just waiting for an opportunity to come out. Even a completely unrelated observation about how entertaining college football has been is enough to send them scrambling back onto their soapbox to remind everyone how terrible A&M is and how anyone who doesn't share their misery must be a sunshine pumper. It's almost impressive how incapable these people are of separating their own misery from someone else's enjoyment.
It's a weird dynamic and the fact that it's been a pervasive response from miserable, emotionally stunted pot bangers since, oh roughly 2003, speaks volumes on its own.

This. Been saying the same thing. College football was so much more fun before the obsession over the national championship

Ditto. I have has season tickets for 34 years and I am ready to walk away. Overpaid people who don't give a damn about our University is at the top of my list. Also on the list is the erosion of traditions. An A&M game atmosphere is now no different than any other big school game.
When the truth comes out, do not ask me how I knew.
Ask yourself why you did not.

If we were winning I would be excited about the season. We are losing, though, and it is easy to question why this is so important to me considering the stupidity the NIL has created. It just feels like the NFL lite now with a bunch of kids representing the school that could likely be here just for the money.

$40MM and we're 4-4, with a slim chance of earning 1 more victory.

With a little bit of luck, we end up 5-7 which would make each win worth $8MM.

This is completely laughable stat. We've completely crashed and burned this year.

However, since zero of my dollars are in play, I laugh like the rest of the football world.

Regardless of NIL, the quality of play on the field has caused my apathy.

NIL will continue to be a problem moving forward.

Whether A&M pays too much and the team sucks or A&M pays too little and the team sucks - which is better?

We had a record crowd against Arky this year. And we had plenty of fans as a playoff team last year. It has everything to do with on field performance.

The revolving door (portal) and NIL have eroded my interest. I dropped my football tickets ~3 years ago. Not sure if I renew basketball after this season. Eliminated my Texas Aggies United contribution a month ago. Will probably not renew 6th Man Club next year. I still enjoy watching on TV, but my interest level is lower than it used to be.
