He said he was our best option.

I began to wonder. Option for what besides winning.

Maybe he believes that for the future of the program we need to be seen as a program that will build quarterbacks and fix their issues instead of throwing them aside for the next guy when a loss happens.

Maybe he's not making decisions based on one game or one season but to establish culture.

And maybe's he's not. But if he is, he might be onto something.

We do have a history of mis management of quarterbacks only to have them set the world on fire in a different place.

Maybe our culture of demanding winning over development needs a second look.

If that's his plan. He should just say so.

I think that's an oversimplification. Winning and losing always teaches. In fact teams learn more when they lose than when they win.

You learn when you make mistakes and we are making plenty of mistakes. He's focused on teaching. Not on winning.

And long term that may be good.

Listen to what he says they aren't doing. There's plenty he is trying to teach them. But not all who try to teach can. Sometimes you don't reach them.

Then Marcel is likely our qb next year? This logic could be pointing down that road.

Well, what he is teaching by refusing to pull Reed is that you can continuously make mistakes and there will be no repercussions. I guarantee other players are seeing that.

So by this logic, the entire rest of the team - every other position - should be ok with losing every week? What kind of story makes sense for recruits or retaining top players if so?

They 100% are and he's going to lose a lot of players because of it.

I agree that, even in football, you'll never achieve greatness when you only care about winning and losing. It's counterintuitive, but It's been said for a long time in different ways, and recently Saban popularized it as his "process" . I agree with that. You have to focus on playing your best game in that 6 seconds of every play. The outcome will be what it will be, but you have to play well in that 6 seconds.

The problem is that there are lots of instances each game when we make poor decisions in each play. Yes, I agree that he's trying to focus on teaching them, but something's not coming through. He handed off the DC play calling earlier this year, and that's good. Now what to do about the OC that hasn't been able to adapt Marcel's talents to turnout into a successful year? Klein did a good job of it last year. Why the drop off?

Sometimes I think the perspective of the average poster on how a CFB program works is like a video game. Make your picks, run the game from an omniscient perspective, and you either win or lose based on how you controlled the handful of variables you have access to.

Nevermind the hundreds of actual variables that are involved and the luck / planet alignment you need to pull off a Natty.

There's a reason there's only 1 Nick Saban in CFB. It isn't as simple as "if we just do x y and z we win" otherwise lots of schools would be winning Natty's on the regular.

losing sucks, but don't cry about it on a message board.

Unbelievable, #99 out of 100. And that last one at #100, is some guy named Goose Crowder, at Troy.

This team is very poorly coached except for maybe running backs and special teams. Marcel bails out the back of the pocket instead of stepping up into it. DB's don't know when to look back at the qb and when not to. Center doesn't know not to snap on a draw 'em off attempt. Receivers don't block or get separation. DL doesn't get off blocks or bull rush. We don't get home on the blitz. The HC hires the assistants. The HC doesn't know when it's time to try a different qb. The HC needs to go. It is expensive, but losing like a schedule gimme costs more.

You can't put Elko on the couch for obvious reasons but. Texans will never understand an Ivy League liberal with guilt complex. Give up cause Joey Bagof Donuts is here for at least one more miserable year.

These stats also show Reed's PAA of -9.6
PAA:Number of points contributed by a quarterback, accounting for QBR and how much he plays, above the level of an average quarterback.

He is clearly a major liability, but we all have eyes to see.

Maybe Lincoln Riley will get fired and take over our offense. It's a dream but I have to escape this reality somehow.
