What's the cesspool consensus on this fellow? Given that Reed is horrible and getting worse it seems some blame would fall to Joey. He doesn't appear to have a strong QB pedigree as a player or a coach. Odd that he's our guy to straighten Reed out. Then again I suppose he fits right in.

He's the first coach that needs to go

He worked with Reed when both were in the Nashville area. I believe the thought was to give Reed everything he needed to be comfortable. Instead it was a disastrous decision to promote him to QB coach. Lynch is the proximate cause or at a minimum the enabler of a lot of our issues at the QB position.

And we brought in Marcel's buddy to develop our younger qb's and that seems to be failing as well… Elko seems to have cared more about keeping Marcel happy and comfortable than the development of our roster

Elko knows ball though

Elko took the easy lazy way out in every decision this offseason.

All of the decisions were specifically for Reed. Wiggins to keep the same offense, and Lynch for familiarity and since Reed needed a QB Coach.

This is why Elko refuses to bench Reed.

I keep saying this...

Elko is doing Reed NO favors by continuing to stick him out there....and fail.
As the multitudes have said, bench him. See if that gets his head right.
At this point, what's the harm?

I disagree. I think most everything stems from keeping Reed and once that decision was made you do everything to make it work. You have no choice at that point. I think before this season started you could make an argument this was the best way to ensure Reed was successful because failure of QB1 means your season is done.

I know hindsight makes all of these decisions look bad but at the time credible arguments could be made this was as good a path as going to the portal for a QB. Now I think good arguments could be made to support ditching Reed and going to the portal too.

I don't think Elko was lazy. Its just that every major personnel decision on offense blew up in his face. He believed in continuity and loyalty and it failed him. I bet he is far more calculating hiring his offensive staff and choosing his QB going forward.

Reed won the starting job at A&M when he came off the bench vs LSU. Maybe coming off the bench again will fire him up. Who knows but I, for one, am willing to give it a shot. I will email my vote to bench to Elko after I get another morning coffee.

At this stage, I'm semi-convinced Lynch is a tu plant hired to coach Reed wrong on purpose, like with Wimp Lo in Kung Pow.

A coach benched me once and made me yell "I want to play" at the top of my lungs before he'd put me back in. I didn't have anymore issues after that. Sometimes a meeting of the bench and ass is necessary
Give me the guy who shoots for excellence and fails over the guy who shoots for mediocrity and succeeds.

Reed won that job by never attempting a pass.
Over an injured Weigman.

Worst hire by far, before Wiggins or the DC this guy should've never been hired. He's been absolutely failure everywhere he's been

A better hire and our offense looks differently, as they would be able help Wiggins tailor the offense to better fit our current players

Reed threw plenty of pass in the bowl game. It's on Youtube
