We are at a "replace the OC in midseason" level of bad

HTH did we think it was ok to go into the season with an erratic 185 lb starting QB, and a string bean 18 year old who never took a cfb game snap as his backup? Our QB Coach was fired from per-Pavia Vanderbilt. That should have been a red flag.

Look at what LSU did. They brought in a QB starter and a backup. I would trade Reed for the backup that LSU got from Elon in a heartbeat.

Don't give the excuse that our OL is bad because we had to rebuild it. Alabama had to rebuild their OL also and probably didn't spend a penny more on NIL than we did.

We whiffed badly in the portal and there must be consequences for that because two years of whiffing will end Elko's tenure.

If we had Mizzou's QB, or take your pick, our OC would look like a boss right now.

Who's responsible for the development of the QB?

I think you are correct. An average D1 QB and we'd have two more wins. Elko now knows that keeping Reed and promoting Lynch to QB coach were massive mistakes. While promoting Wiggins was probably forced by keeping Reed he's been OK. However, his promotion to OC caused the promotion of Perry to WR which has been bad.

I foresee wholesale changes on the offensive side of the ball in the off season. I think Elko tried loyalty and it has completely backfired. I suspect he will be more cutthroat going forward.

It's mostly Marcel, not Holman… now padding on 3rd and 2 close to the end zone…. That's bad play calling with poorer execution.

Reed's regression sits squarely on Wiggins and Elko. Have yall seen our o-line?? We have lineman lying on their backs in the backfield. Reed looks terrible, but it's not like Wiggins offense is firing on all cylinders aside from the qb. We have dropped passes right in our hands numerous times. Running backs running into blown up gaps. It's like saying the reason jimbo lost to App State was because the players were bad, not Jimbo. Uh…yeah?? That's kind of his job to develop them and put in players that can win. Klein had Reed throwing a game winning touchdown at Notre Dame. Wiggins has us excited about how good our kicker is.

Players need to be treated like pros going forward because they are. If a player is receiving NIL and it doesn't appear they will ever contribute meaningfully they need to be sent to the portal and a hungry player with potential needs to be brought in.

We have 5 QB's on the roster and if we only have the confidence to play one of them, then it looks like we need to cut bait on a couple of QBs as well as their coach and the QB talent evaluators..

No rush first offensive play reed throws a dirt ball. That has been him as long as hes been here he throws bullets then ducks, grounders, and can still never lead a receiver. Hes terrible and reached his ceiling last year. The difference we had enough talent on offense to win despite him until Mizzou figured out he couldnt play against the zone and after that he was garbage and still garbage to this day.

Couple things....

I don't think it was a pass call. I think it was an RPO.
It was a good play call, and it was open.
Reed read it correctly. The slot defender fit the run, opening the window for the slant behind him.
The failure was on ABR in my opinion. He beat his man across his face then leaked up field, allowing the DB to get a hand in.

I am not a coach, I am simply a guy that watches a ton of football. If anybody here knows ball well enough to definitively say I am wrong, then I'll listen. If you want to tell me it was a bad call because we suck and it resulted in an interception, then fine. I probably would've preferred a mandatory give or something with Reed's legs, but the play was there. Bad bounce and bad luck. There were a lot of major problems with the offense on Saturday, but that particular play was not the worst of it by a long shot.

Coaching malpractice.

I have a somewhat a different take on the 3rd and 2 in the red zone earlier in the game.

1) agree that it was an RPO, and it was somewhat open. Mistake #1 was by the OC. To that point in the game, we were running the ball decently ....definitely averaging more than 2 yards a carry. Take the play with the highest % chance to succeed. Hand it off to a RB on a quick hit between the tackles.

2) Marcel made the right read on the RPO. He pulled it and tried to hit the quick slant. The ball placement was bad. If the ball was 2 feet to the left (the front of the receiver), the DB can't make a play on the ball without going through the receiver.

The tip resulting in the INT was bad luck, but could have been avoided.
