Says a lot when Reed is the best QB we can play. Will probably us the Arkansas playbook this week, lean heavily on the run.

the reality is there is no fixing anything this year. you don't quit trying, but this team isn't a good team. Some of that is on the coach, some of that is on the players, and some of that is on this new NIL stuff. you aren't going to have great backups in all positions as quality of depth is determined by money and opportunity. Think back with Saban pulled Hurts for Tua. There is no way a team is going to have both those level QB's on a team in the NIL era. They are off getting paid somewhere. The best you can hope for is a player that hasn't yet got to that level and is a diamond in the rough.

Elko is shocked too at how bad Reed has been playing
he didn't plan for it
has been caught off-guard by how bad the QB is right now

It's also quite possible that Marcel simply can't do what he's being coached to do. He has and always has had horrid throwing mechanics, and his particular problems do not tend to be fixable this far into his football career.
I mean, you can hire the absolute best baseball coach on the planet to work with me over the next year at shortstop, and I am never going to play for the New York Yankees. No matter how good that coach is, or how hard I work. I simply don't possess the ability.

On Marcel Reed:
"Yeah, Marcel's our quarterback. We believe in Marcel. Nobody works harder than that kid. Is he playing to the level we need him to? No. But we've got to do a better job putting him in positions to be successful. And that's not just on Marcel. That's on me, that's on our offensive staff, that's on everybody."
I don't think he is capable of playing at the level we need him to, and continuing to try to put that square peg into a round hole is not helping anyone or anything.
After hearing his statement about Marcel I think Hart and the other QB's must not practice hard and really suck at being QB's. HC just made poor decisions on putting together a roster.
Edit: He also made a statement that this team isn't built for playing from behind. Why not?? Who built it?
That's not what he said. He took complete responsibility and he said everything is on the table but that QB is a difficult change because of timing and other things. I bet he is getting Hart ready now.

I saw o line f up, repeatedly, I saw rbs and tes not blocking, repeatedly. I saw receivers out of position and dropping balls, repeatedly. Of course we all saw reed with the worst case of yips we've had in a long ass time, make poor decisions and poor throws, repeatedly. This is what it looks like when your offense fails in all facets. changing qb cant fix this. About the only thing that will fix it is time and carefully replacing the truly broken parts next year. I think that'll include a new qb but elko has to be careful not to blow it up or he will end up here again. This is how portal+nil is manifesting a changed football landscape for the worse. A team can get really good in one year or get equally bad in one year.

This is true. You wouldn't play for the Yankees. But unless you're an absolute mess, you'd improve in some areas. Marcel has regressed in all areas.

I don't understand the loyalty to Reed at this point outside of the sad fact there is $3M of NIL tied to him.
He is statistically one of the worst QBs in college football this season. If we don't have any other QB on the team that can perform better than this, then this entire coaching staff has failed at the most important position on the field.
This is nothing against Reed personally. I think he's a tremendous young man and a great representative of Texas A&M. But he does not deserve to be on the field anymore this season, period.

The inaccuracy and the mechanical problems have always been there.
I think the regression is pretty much all due to the gray matter between his ears.
Kind of like John Rocker.
Some people respond to pressure very well, and others just spin out of control.
I'm not sure there's anything a coach can do about that.
That said, the coach doesn't seem to have accomplished much.

"Yeah, listen, obviously Saturday was not up to the standard of Texas A&M football. And ultimately that falls on me. I'm the head football coach. I own it. Nobody in this building is happy with where we are right now. But the reality is, we can't sit around feeling sorry for ourselves. We've got to get back to work, attack the issues, and find ways to get better. There's no magic formula to fixing this. It's a process."
On his comments about TexAgs:
"Yeah, listen, I think what I said got taken a little bit out of context. I have tremendous respect for the 12th Man. I think anybody who knows me knows how much appreciation I have for this fan base. But there's a difference between people who genuinely care about this program and the outside noise that doesn't understand what's actually happening inside this building. And I'm not going to apologize for protecting our players from that. Could I have expressed it differently? Sure. But my focus is on the guys in that locker room."
On whether changes are coming:
"Yeah, we're evaluating everything. Every position, every coach, every scheme. That's what you do when things aren't going the way you want. But I think people on the outside sometimes think you just flip a switch and everything gets fixed overnight. That's not how you build a program. We've got to trust our process, stay committed to what we believe in, and continue to develop the guys we have."
On what fans should expect against The Citadel:
"Yeah, listen, The Citadel is a very well-coached football team. They play extremely hard. If we don't show up ready to play, they'll expose us. We're not in a position to overlook anybody right now."
Closing statement:
"Nobody's expectations for this program are higher than mine. Nobody. But we're going to build this thing the right way, and I'm not going to let outside noise dictate how we go about doing that."

like I said, nothing will be accepted by the cesspool.
Elko literally said he regretted the way he expressed it. ChatGPT condensed it and left that part out.

I find it comical that Elko is perplexed as to why the team can perform so well during fall camp and during practice, but then suck during the game.
IT'S BECAUSE BOTH UNITS OF YOUR TEAM SUCK ELKO
I thought he was the smartest man in the room.

If your baby was on display every week and people were throwing rocks at it and calling it ugly, you'd care. This team is his baby, its a reflection of him!
These coaches care. They are proud. They don't want to lose. Their salary is not what motivates them one way or the other.

You are either not watching these things or have already formed an opinion that you won't let go of. I think he cares a lot. Caring about something and being able to fix it are two different things. Hopefully we see progress or at least glimpses of building blocks for next year.

Yes im sure they would do the same exact job if they were only paid $300k. Please. They do it for the money. Now he will say this failure isnt his fault it was the big money donors who controlled his roster. It was an atmosphere that was negative. He will point the blame for why he failed.

Terrible analogy. It someone was throwing rocks at my baby, I'd jump in and do something about it. My response would be the proof that I care.
Elko has observed all of this teams poor performance, and has done NOTHING to change it. His lack of response is proof that he doesn't care.
If our backup QB's truly suck, and Marcel is our best option... There are still things he could do to try and help the situation. But he hasn't even tried to change a thing.

Your money argument is dumb.
