Howdy.

Everyone is saying that there's not one answer to the offensive problems this year. And it's certainly true that the entire offensive team isn't getting it done. I've been watchin Aggie Football for over 50 years and I've never seen it this bad. What is strange to me is that nobody can figure out why. Well, here's my take on it.

The offensive staff designed an offense around a quarterback who just isn't good enough. This is why Elko doesn't think changing now will help. Reed wasn't good enough last year, but the rest of the offense could make it work. They were good enough most of the time to bail Reed out. This year, they aren't. Remembering back to the start of fall camp and all the talking heads on TV, they all questioned Reed's ability and consistency. That's because last year, just like this year, he wasn't good enough or consistent enough.

Reed seems like a fine young man, and I hope he succeeds in life. I'm sure he will. I think he will make a great ambassador for A&M in the future. He just isn't good enough on the field to take the Ags where we want to go.

Last year everyone played us like a dual threat team until texas exposed us. Miami followed their game plan to perfection. Every team this year is just following suit. We have no answer because Elko didn't see what really happened in those last two games.

Safeties are playing 10 yards off the ball, and they aren't treating the deep ball as a legitimate threat... because it isn't. We struggle to run because the other team is only really concerned about the run

The offense last year was hurt by the loss of Moss in the run game. I really think that was a major factor because he was that good, when 100%.
The rest of your post is pretty spot on regarding this year, with the addition that last year we had 4 OL drafted and had to rebuild, which obviously hasn't come up to par.

Yep, we're a one-dimensional offense. Stack the box and put a spy on Marcel and the offense gets completely neutered.

I wish Elko could have seen this very obvious weakness like opposing teams did. Maybe he did and he thought Marcel could get better? I just don't know how a man can supposedly be as smart as he is and have such a massive blind spot.

Our offense is offensive, that's all I got.

We continue to run out 12 personnel with no pass-catching threat from the TE position. Allows teams to load the box and play man coverage behind it and it's the easiest thing they've been asked to do all season.

He said it himself in the news conference that he has no confidence on how to fix this. That's when the AD should have cut bait and let him go. Plain and simple, Mike Elko has been exposed for the lack of evaluation of players (in games), adjusting schemes and coaches. If the man has no confidence in himself then how can the players, AD, BOR and the fan base have confidence.

There is no way to know if a TE can catch the ball. Marcel has thrown probably no more than 6 or 8 passes all year to a TE that were catchable. When the qb can't throw 10 yard passes, who knows what we have.

This is my point. We have not shown the TE's to be legitimate threats in the pass game.

Elko has terrible options- he is actually playing just Reed to protect his OC and himself, who would both be exposed if they put in Hart and we were equally bad.

He is maintaining plaudible deniability while sacrificing Reed.

The kid is going to do fine without football. He cleared more money than most college grads would dream of retiring with in one season.

He is smart enough to hold onto it and possibly make that money grow.
