These coaches also assessed Reed, so trust is low. Some kids are gamers, might as well see what they got.
In all honesty Reed was a jimbo recruit.

He was a 4 star, wasn't he? How do you get four stars being awful?

So why more Reed??

If the coaches don't have faith in the backup QBs, they will all leave in the post season and we will be a in tougher spot

So AI says there are only 20-30 four star quarterbacks in every class. Is that accurate? If that's accurate, then four stars should mean more than just being the most athletic guy on the field. Hard to believe a four star that hasn't played yet is so awful he'll never see the field.

I agree Hart hasn't looked good either. In a lost year why don't not go to the freshman Casuga and just see wth he can do?
Seems like the only way this doesn't make sense is that you've seen much evidence in practice that Casuga doesnt have potential.
I'm not sure I understand what is so "huge" about the opinion. Casuga has rarely shown he has it against elevated competition, whether against other high profile HSs or in the spring game. There's a lot of evidence he isn't ready for this level, and thus a ton of reason to "suspect" the defensive players see this everyday, as they chew him up in practice. If you put a guy on the field that looks bad during practice, the rest of the team gets a bad, bad message. If Casuga looked really good in practice, we'd probably hear about it.Big Cowboy said:npc said:I suspect they see how badly they missed on Casuga's assessment, and the team knows that as well. Putting in Casuga would signal to the team that the coaches have given up. It would probably significantly hamper any chance at Caduga's development, because he would likely get murdered.fightinag said:
I've been asking for Casuga to get playing time for three week !
Why not let him start this week and see his skill level in the big league
I usually agree with most everything you say, but not this time. Know that I am not trying to be adversarial with you. I read your comments and always appreciate what you have to say. I yield that you know much more football than I, but wish you wouldn't state such a huge opinion based on something you "suspect". It's not fair to the young man. It absolutely yanks the rug out from under him and what he could accomplish here. Like fightinag, I have been calling for Casuga for weeks. I know you have watched his high school tape and was unimpressed. I respect that, but that was from a year ago at least. Also, I don't think he will get murdered if, unlike Reed, he's got some vision and can make quick decisions and distribute the ball the way QB's all over this country do every weekend without running around like a chicken with his head cut off. I am firmly in the "it can't get any worse" camp.

I doubt Casuga even knows the playbook well enough to start.
Agree. I've been saying for a few weeks that A&M needs to realign around a power inside running game, with man blocking scheme, the zone read, and almost exclusively PA pass (with mix of screens and go balls). Reed has never been a capable field reader, so this should've been the approach from the get go. IMO, the offensive priorities should be 1. Simplify. 2. Give hope, ie qb mystery box. Start Casuga this week. Start Hart against SC. Or flip that. Or just start one. Just acknowledge that Reed has failed, and isn't anywhere close to pulling out of this tailspin.Artorias said:dc1234 said:

So put together a simpler game plan that he can execute.
At this point, you have to try something different. Or just accept a 4-8 season.

The game against Citadel would be the best time to play Hart and anyone else.
If Reed gets hurt Elko has to put in someone.
Best find out now who that might be.

You don't "know" the defense is chewing Casuga up in practice everyday, or that he looks bad in practice everyday. As for hearing if Casuga, or Hart for that matter, was looking good in practice, Elko is extremely tight-lipped with information.

Reed knows the playbook inside out....How's that working out ?
I have always been aboard starting another guy, I've just always tried to temper the emotional tantrums of those screaming that Elko is an idiot to not do it. I've stated since prior to last season that Reed is a Sam level qb. Then A&M landed the most miraculous schedule in SEC history, and made the playoff. It was an illusion of team greatness, but the results were indeed a playoff birth, and Elko felt committed to Reed.Big Cowboy said:npc said:Agree. I'm glad to see you acknowledge Reed has failed and can't recover, and advising we start one or the other of Casuga and Hart in whichever order this week and at SC. It's just the predictions of what these talented young men can't do that bothers me.
