I don't post here often but I do follow the threads weekly but here's what I think a lot of people are forgetting…Mike Elko should have NEVER been hired in the first place! It was a terrible hire from Day 1! This is Texas A&M with more money than they know what to do with and yet this joke was what they thought was best?? You could've afforded every dime it took to hire Lane Kiffen or Kalen DeBoer and instead we hired one of the "good old boys" from down at the Golden Corral. Coaching is a joke and talent evaluation is an equal joke. We've watched a coach continually run Kellen Mond onto the field who was an absolute joke and now we watch this clown continually run Reed out there. This athletic department has no common sense in talent evaluation of coaches or players either one!
Couldn't go after DeBoer because of not being able to wait on him. How'd this work out? DeBoer Seems like he is learning his lessons and Elko isn't. If it's the right coach who cares about waiting.
Deboer wasn't going to choose A&M over Bama, so we'd have waited and then gotten burned.
With the way college football goes, you can't wait until after the playoffs.
But that's fine - we shouldn't go after some big name that is coaching at a major school in the playoffs because they'll require an insane salary and ridiculous buyout in their contract.
The jury is still out on Deboer long term.
I'd much rather go get a guy on the upswing with less resources, take a few years and move on if he isn't working.
I think the days of hiring a massive, known quantity are gone except for at a very few schools and A&M isn't one of them.
That was a better move when things like recruiting were more coach centric. Now it is more NIL centric, which means you can hire a guy that isn't established as elite and still recruit at a high level.
