Some hurries but only 1 sack against pigs. We probably only have 4 sacks on the year. If this does not get fixed I don't think we win another SEC game.

Doubt I will rewatch the game but last night on several plays our LB's were just hanging out 5-10 yards beyond the line of scrimmage. They weren't covering anyone, no RB or TE's in the backfield, just basically watching. Send one!

It looks like we have shifted to focus on interceptions. We have more picks than all of last season and that has come at a cost of fewer sacks. Not sure which is better but it looks like our focus is disciplined run defense and more ints.

Little to any pass rush. It's more of a cursory haste applied to the QB.

Counting on the opposition qb to throw bad passes with 3 or 4 seconds to pass is a losing strategy

We've happened to get more picks so far this year thanks to Cutter Boley. We haven't "shifted focus" away from rushing the passer. We just suck at it. LOL at the absurd idea that we've intentionally tried to stop rushing the passer so we can get more picks. That is some of the most laughable fan fiction I've ever read on here.

When you're only bringing 4 to the line that's kind of how it goes.

Tenn has like 22 sacks and avg more per game than what we've had thus far in the season.

I'll take sacks over interceptions all day.

This DL is underwhelming. Not bad against the run, but very little pass rush and even less edge pressure. Also to my eye without watching D replays and cut-ups, it seems like it is just a straight 4 bull rush every play, little to no stunts and twists.

That is not going to work against better QBs who can either throw better OR are a threat to run if there is good coverage.

I know it's below par for Elko and he's not pleased with it. But for now will just enjoy the comprehensive beat down of the Hogs, the score and the stats all pointed to a SW Classic blowout beatdown and a feel good W for the team.

Yep

Getting more pressure should, theoretically, lead to getting
more picks

Our DEs have no bend. They're essentially lighter DTs

This. Also, ASU began the strategy and it was pressed harder by Kentucky & LSU and for a while arky until they were down too much, but so many formations are bunched near the line and over loaded.

Football is give and take. If we can't move the ball and score on offense, then teams will set them up to protest against our defense. Gotta break through. Last night was arky so there's zero chance of guessing if we did that or not.

Next week should be interesting.

It works on us in practice so that's what they take to the game

Really? They scored 7 points. Did you even watch the game?

Yes, THEY scored 7, every remaining SEC team will score 30+ against the same D effort. Passing QBs will thrive and dual-threat QBs will just gash the defense at will.

It's probably working really well against qb1 in practice tho

Agreed. A delayed LB blitz with the other covering as a spy should work with all the deep routes.

What makes you think we'll play the exact same defensive strategy and scheme against every other team? We more than took the right approach against Arkansas. Only nine other teams in all of the FBS gave up less points points than we did yesterday.

It looks like defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill has shifted our focus from getting sacks to forcing takeaways. We have already matched our interception total from last year with three interceptions this year.
