Ever heard of Tony Franklin?

Edit - dammit falls - you beat me to it.

At least we have found ourselves a kicker. He looks really good so far.

Is there some foreboding here? Like, is this "peak excitement" for the team this year or just watching the jubilation and the team celebration of it? I'm hoping for the latter.

David needs a similar masterpiece of a biography written about him.

Danged ol' Randy man. He's just a good o'l boy in good ol' boy shape. Leg like a got damn cannon. Big air, don't care. That's Randy. Putting a big ol' dip in before he hits the field. That's dang ol' Randy man. Showing up to the games a few beers deep just so he knows he can kick every one of those mother****erin kicks down the middle and two step out the door. That's Randy. If you could smoke on the field or ride an ATV on the sidelines, he'd be doing it.

What about like beating Alabama and Johnny winning the Heisman? Making a field goal is better than that? Good lord some of you are actually insane.

Pretty sure Franklin got to kick off a tee back then.

Tees were outlawed following the 1988 season.
Goal posts were narrowed for the 1991 season.

Regardless, this is pretty good company for our new SENIOR TRANSFER kicker!
His 57-yarder could've easily cleared 5 more yards.

Olano isn't a fish. He's a senior transfer from Illinois.

I believe Olano is a graduate transfer from Illinois. They weren't happy to see him go, but they managed a pretty good replacement. I live in Champaign and nobody seems to begrudge him going to a higher profile football school.

Edit to add: And I was at the game against Baylor when Franklin kicked the 65 and 64 yarders. If I remember correctly, he was the NCAA record holder for about an hour and a half and then some guy at Abilene Christian beat him by a few yards that same day.

When I was in high school it was fun watching pregame warmup when the Ags played tu. The sips had Russell Erxleben as their kicker. Tony Franklin would be kicking from the sips end of the field. Erxleben would be kicking from the Ags end of the field.

The crowd was oohing and ahhing as both kickers were making these long range warmups.

I remember that. Arkansas had a really good kicker too...Steve Little maybe? And then there was the Johannsen kid who kid the wind aided 69 yard FG for Abilene Christian the same day Franklin kicked the two 60+ yard FGs vs Baylor.

Arkansas had Steve Little. Tony and Steve would put on a pregame show.

AI…
Steve Little is one of the most famous field goal kickers from Arkansas, known for setting the NCAA record with a 67-yard field goal in 1977. He played for the Arkansas Razorbacks from 1974 to 1977 and was a two-time All-American before his untimely death in 1999.

I wonder if Erxleben is still kicking from his cell in prison for the third time
