Was harts interception a bad pass, or was that due to the wide receiver not breaking off his route in a specific timing pattern. It appeared to me that he expected him to break off his route at 10 yards, and the wide receiver continued to run. I know Reed never passes on a timing pattern, and I wonder if our wide receivers have not become accustomed to doing their own thing

The pass was too flat. He tossed a dart; needed some loft and the WR would/could have caught it in stride over their shoulder.

HE WAS UNDER NO PRESSURE AND THREW IT STRAIGHT TO THE DEFENDER, WHO WAS BLANKETING THE RECEIVER. IT WAS GOD AWFUL.

He threw a pass just like Marcel, a line drive fastball with no air under it. It was his first pass and he made a mistake and I'd like to see how he plays when he has more than one chance.
You can't condemn a QB who comes off the bench and his first pass is a fly pattern to a streaking WR, again with a little air under the ball it could have been a completion, but it wasn't

Haven't had a QB throw it with loft or arch since Johnny, Kyle Allen, and occasional Mond. Our QBs suck.

The pass was actually thrown very well. It was in the wrong position but it was thrown well. Without the cb being there it was a td. The results are to be expected. He hasn't been throwing with the 1s . Is he the answer, I have no idea, but one interception off of a well thrown ball isn't the correct way to decide if he should play in the future.

But if the wide receiver was supposed to stop on a 10- yard pattern, then that ball would hit him right in the numbers, and then you cornerback would have kept running

Yes, if it was a go round, it was a poorly thrown ball

Damn good pass. If only that damn defender wasn't right there! Kinda sounds like a scooby doo ending lol

But you can say it was a terrible decision to make that throw. Dude was covered. Move on to the next option or tuck it and run. Not throwing in the towel on the kid, but that was not a good start and it does reinforce Elko's decision to stick with Reed.

Either Reed and Hart are both responsible for their play or they both aren't. Silly to say Reed needs to be benched for his play and then start making excuses for Hart. Both players can be bad.

Someone indicated that the WR was supposed to have inside leverage on that route and did initially. It's possible Hart saw the WR establish that leverage and threw the pass. However, the WR lost inside leverage, obviously, and the DB intercepted the pass. Now is that all true? I don't know. We'd need to see the all 22.

However, there was a lot to like for Hart. He took a 6 yard drop. Set his feet and delivered a laser directly on target. No hesitation. No happy feet. No drifting back back back and then scramble into a sack. It also appeared to be on time. Now it may have been missing touch but let's see what more reps look like.

Reed got 26 opportunities (more if you count the times he bailed early and ran himself into a sack). Hart got one.

Not excusing Hart's mistake (assuming it was his and not the receiver's), but after 1 opportunity, it might be a little early to close the book.

Are you talking about Reed or Hart?

Reed has twenty plus games under his belt and Hart has twenty plus minutes under his. And the fact that we can't be sure is another indictment of Elko's terrible decision making and Reed's extreme lack of progress.

We cannot win with Marcel playing like he is right now. We don't know if we can win with someone else at qb. Any coach who wants to win tries the unknown verses sticking with the known which will equal more losses. This is not hard.

It was just very Aggie of him for that first pass to be an INT all things consideredz

I agree with most of this. What seems very unlikely is the OC calling a play where the receiver is would have to fight for, and maintain inside position and demand a precise throw on tight timing, for his first throw of the game.

What is more likely is the kid made up his mind before the snap and threw it to a covered receiver.

I think you are probably right. Hart read his pre-snap keys and made up his mind based upon what the defense was showing. I bet the all 22 shows a much easier throw available. However, even if all of that is likely true, and I think it is, if the WR keeps position Hart delivers that ball on time and on target. Something we can't say for Reed.

We just need more sample size to better evaluate Hart. For all we know he keeps chunking interceptions just like we saw or maybe not.

I am sure Reed is terrible, not enough data on Hart to know if he is bad.

His first past of the season was a TD vs Missouri State

You can not determine if it was good or bad when he hasn't played a snap in a real game, do not practice with his receivers, at night in a hostile environment.

Throwing it away does no good because we were getting run over. Take the risk, if he gets a TD, get some confidence, and makes it a game then it is the best result.

Throwing an INT is no diff than throwing it to the ground. LSU could have scored 50+ pts and essentially was in run the clock mode in the 4th.

Time to move on, the Reed experiment has run its course. Could he improve into an adequate QB or avg QB, possibly. Do we have a team to do much with an avg QB, NOPE. Might as well take some risks rather than capping your ceiling at 8 wins next yr.

IMO, it was a horrible play call for your backup QB's first pass in real live SEC action. Why did the coach not set him up with something a little easier to give him some confidence is my biggest concern.

we have no idea if that was the primary target, or another WR was the primary but Hart saw he had inside leverage and made the throw.

go watch him in the Missouri State game, you will see all you need to see. He is not ready. Skinnier and slower than Reed. Worse at reading defenses.

We are toast. Our only hope is to rely on the run game and go with 2 back sets with lots of misdirection runs, TE and RB swing passes with Reed. Occasional play action deep posts or fly routes. But we won't do that.

Hart: can't read the field

Reed: can't read the field or make a throw

Not even close to accurate. The receiver initially had an inside release and, for some unknown reason, gave up the leverage he had on the DB and allowed the interception. The ball could have been thrown a little farther inside to help with this but the WR also did a very poor job of maintaining leverage.

Gosh, I wish Elko seemed to have a plan or was communicating something that expressed confidence or optimism for the rest of the year. Some have already said this, but over the last two seasons Elko has exhibited arrogance and stubbornness in his defensive play calling and his decisions with some players. If Reed continues to struggle, he needs to play Hart for at least a half or a game. And on defense, we'll continue to get plowed over if we don't dial up the pressure or mix-up the coverages.

He had his mind made up where he was going, long before the snap.

Great throw. Horrendous decision.
Can't say bad read, because there wasn't a read at all

The new QB Coach is a disaster. This position has regressed the longer he has coached them.

We will know when the season is over and we have multiple QBs leave.

He threw it straight to the defender. It doesn't mean he sucks, it just means he made a mistake on that play. Move on and do better. Give him another chance, what can it hurt at this point.

He was in a horrible situation with about three minutes left in the game on our own 4 yard line basically, told to pass the ball off to run the game clock out and then given a shot. That's not a fair situation to put him in. He should've been put in at least beginning of the fourth quarter.

It looked like he decided he was going to make that pass before the ball was snapped.

He locked in on the receiver, and threw it flat.

If he read the defense, he would have went through his progressions or thrown with the some air under the ball ahead of the receiver.
