Friend of mine who is a Ragin Cajun grad, sent me a Happy Anniversary message which included a video.

Dilly Dilly my BAS has flared.

My demon woke me up this morning and said bruh, I'm tired... So I handed him a Red Bull and said come on little buddy, we got bridges to burn and chaos to spread.

That's great. I've really been on pins and needles waiting to find out who did it.

I remember my parents went to that game with some classmates and friends of his, he was class of '53 and when they came back, they said that whole thing was just awful.

Although the program had started its decline the year before (and a season-opening loss to BYU), in my mind that was the night the Wrecking Crew era ended.

we had 8 turnovers

USL offense scored 7 points.

had nothing to do with the defense.

I'm talking about the era when we were kicking everyone's ass and never losing at Kyle, not necessarily the D's performance that night.

Although the 51-15 massacre by tu at the end of the year was probably the final nail in the WC coffin, the chants were gone in 97.

Interesting how the game has changed in 30 years.

Mainly, we will never play a game at USL / Louisiana-Lafayette again. The days of the 2-for-1 or 3-for-1 road trips to ULL, UNT, Southern Miss, Tulsa, etc. are dead and gone.

I don't remember a lot about that game, but I seem to recall instant replay - with the HD cameras we have today - would have overturned at least 2 of our 8 turnovers. Not sure it would have made a difference in the outcome, but weird things happened back when there was no oversite or accountability of the officiating crew.

ULL wasn't even any good that year. They finished the season at 5-6...beating only A&M, La. Tech, Arkansas State, Memphis, and Northern Illinois. They lost to Florida (badly), Southern Miss (badly), Houston, UAB, Virginia Tech (badly), and Texas Tech (badly). It was similar to losing to App State in 2022 when App State or Arkansas State in 2008 when each of those teams finished the year at 6-6.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

Not sure if there is any truth to this. I heard one ULL alum tell me, that the Aggie staff tore up the coaches booth. Ripping phones off the walls, desk being overturned and throwing paper everywhere.

Was in Provo for the Pigskin Classic (versus Steve Sarkisian) and start to our season. Expectations were high (as usual). I remember thinking we were going to have an improved offense with Branndon Stewart at the helm, but alas, it was a long drive home.

We followed that disappointment up with the Ragin Cajuns.

I did get to see our last conference championship during my student days however.

No. They were still going on.

We were a top 10 defense in '98. Actually, we were #10.

Met a DB from that team years ago. He saw my Aggie shirt and told me he had a pick in that game, how crazy that was to beat A&M. Said your qb just kept throwing right to us. I forget how many ints we had but I think I remember 6. I remember the build up that '96 summer about this amazing qb from Tennessee. '96 was a rough football season.

Many on the team said that his murder earlier that day had them completely distraught and distracted and played a big part in the final score.

Hence the reference.

Hanging out with Elvis and Jim Morrison.

Actually, I just recently saw a weird thing about Jim Morrison. There was this guy the age Jim Morrison would be now and this other guy got to interview him, and he really truly did look like him. It was weird, and the guy was insinuating that it really was him. In fact, there was even a picture of him with the keyboardist from the doors.

The whole thing in Paris with his death was very weird. They were very different stories. This guy was saying basically he wanted to get away from everything and fake his death. I don't really think so but this guy really truly looks so much freaking like him. It was weird and he even said he was wearing brown contacts to cover up his blue eyes.

Given the timeframe and that kind of loss? Can't say I would be surprised. Don't think that would happen today, though.

And if I remember correctly, and I may not be, I think they said our band did not come to that one which made it even more depressing for the Aggies.

Living in Dallas. No television coverage and the radio reception was spotty at best. Suffered through three hours of ineptitude in a stunning loss. If memory serves, we were coming off the BYU loss and had an off week following USL. That was brutal.

I can still remember listening to some games on the radio because that's all you could get. And then you remember Comcast? And Raycom?

We really are spoiled today and basically getting to see every single game through streaming, satellite or cable.

These kids today don't know how good they have it. I mean, we used to have to walk 10 miles in the snow to watch Aggie football.

In college we'd be lucky to see an Aggie game if it weren't on the Raycom network.

It was available on pay per view, which I of course bought. I still remember watching it in disbelief.
Just a terrible season all the way around given what the previous 4 or 5 years had given us.
We were so spoiled. Aggies dominant. Cowboys winning Super Bowls. Man, we didn't know how good we had it.

Game was on PPV, and I was too cheap to buy it. Really it was an excuse to go to Wings 'N More in south College Station and have their chicken tenders and beer. The cable went out with about one minute to go, and the place cleared out. We all ran to our cars and listened to the end on radio. Went back in, squared up, drove home, and called the radio postgame drunk and angry. Only time I've ever called in. I was unhappy with our QB play.

Was a pitcher of beer of 25 wings for $4.99 during Monday Night Football a thing?

Because I seem to recall around $5 wings and beer on Monday nights.

That was the high life.

I take my two boys out for some wings nowadays and it's some $100.

Would you like any thing to drink with that?

Yeah, you got a glass of water?

Wings n More had to have opened at the end of my time in College Station. Still addicted to it to this day, ordered it for the AirBnB we had this weekend watching the sip game and it was amazing as usual. Lemon pepper with hot buffalo sauce and a pile of blue cheese dressing.

I was a sophomore now at Blinn cause of grades and listened to it on the radio. We were in SeVilla apartments on Anderson across from the park. Started 0-2 and we sucked.

The only source I've found for the Tupac story, outside of Zoo lore is Brent Z:
Quote:

Zwerneman said A&M wide receiver Chris Cole told him years later that the death of rapper Tupac the day before was the reason the Aggies lost.

"I guess they didn't listen to Tupac in Lafayette or something like that," Zwerneman said. "That was an excuse for it."

Stewart played a decent amount his freshman year at Tennessee, and played well, competing with another freshman for the starting job, but he lost out and transferred to A&M. The player he lost the job too? Peyton Manning.

3 of those for td's, delhomme and stokely did nothing. We had like 6 t/os. Tiki Hardeman running for TD and fumbles w/o being touched. Awful memories

You are correct up 20-3 and dominating and Michael Jennings tries to field a punt inside the ten yd he fumbled it. Then the game was on as Sarkisian(tu) coach led them back. Jennings also fumbled the opening kickoff vs Colorado. That season was pathetic
