We pulled away in the 4th quarter to win by four touchdowns. It could have been five while playing our backups. Football is never about one or two players. Reed still has issues reading the field. The Oline is a work in progress. The DBs need to work on handoffs for WR rubs and screens. However, Elko has started to establish a program that is elite.

How many games did we play against Alabama, Georgia, LSU etc where we felt like we were wining or competing in the statistics only to walk away from the game losing by double digits? Those teams we lost to had flaws. But the depth and coaching always found a way over 60 minutes to send us home without even a compelling ending.

It looks like Elko is building that here. Sure ASU made mistakes. But coaching gets player to recover muffed punts. Athletes make plays like Marco and Julio.

I am not saying this is a 12 win team. I am saying we have a program to be proud of. Gig'em!!

I'm not going to complain about the game. A win is a win. But in NIL and transfer days, you're not building programs over the long term. You either win or you don't.

I think the NIL reality and the foundation of elite program building can both be true. It's not a hard and fast dichotomy. Look at programs like Ohio State and Indiana. They clearly have both.

You can have a professional culture that players want to transfer to because they want to go to the next level and be the best. A&M's always had the money (Sumlin, Jimbo) but we haven't always had the culture (also Sumlin, Jimbo).

Look at Clemson for an example of where "program builder" skills are no longer as relevant with players can transfer freely and money is the primary predictor for recruiting success.

College football schools have to have a top eye for scouting players and their own program internally. Look to fill in your gaps each year with well-targeted senior transfers that contribute right away. They don't have to be a top flight star, but you need value and production from them. At the same time, it doesn't make sense to pay a lot of money for 5 star freshmen if they just ride the bench while developing and then they transfer for more money the very next year.

Elko is building through high school and the portal. His staff is very good at player evaluation and development of both. Since the start of year 2, Elko is 13-2. That is winning!

Someday A&M will find a person that can identify a QB that stays calm and completes 70%. I guess the other teams that go find proven QBs in the portal have a better understanding of how a stud QB looks. They manage to find guys that can run their offense and go through his reads after one off-season with the OC.

Disagree. The personnel are going to turnover year over year . That much is true altho with our resources we should generally be upgrading rather than downgrading wrt transfers . The culture and approach can still remain consistent and I believe we are seeing exactly that . Winning is certainly the key metric but having the program consistently talented enough and in a position to compete with anyone is the broader picture . We are close to there imo. I don't see any program out there now that we can match up with on any given Saturday and say … we have no chance . That doesn't mean you win them all but you have a reasonable shot to win any given game .
This is what galls me about the Texas 8 & 4 goobers. For whatever reason they ignore we were 11-2 last year and that the program has improved and shows signs of maintaining that level. Granted , you haven't done it until you've done it but they choose to assume we won't.
