Reed is a good mobile athletic quarterback. We've had three possessions so far and I don't think we've seen Reed roll out and given the option to (1) run if the field is open (try to not get hit too much), (2) throw to the open receiver or (3) throw it away if the previous two options are not available.

Bc we don't have anyone if he gets hurt.

He can pass from the pocket, but he needs to have the ability to roll out, stretch the field and move the pocket.

Make the spy get lost in traffic.

When you roll out and/or move the pocket, you're making the defense follow your lead.

When you always drop back, they basically know where you'll be as the quarterback dropping back before the ball is even snapped--the pocket never moves.

I understand the injury worry, as I don't want Reed to try and run over opponent's defensive players. As stated (1) run if the field is open (try to not get hit too much), (2) throw to the open receiver or (3) throw it away if the previous two options are not available. He needs to avoid contact and learn to slide.

Why not call plays to Reed's strengths.

I also wonder why QB2 didn't finish up on the last drive (about 2:30 minutes left). He needs to get snaps and run plays against an opposing defense.

Beyond the OL and reducing injury risk, Reed has been a terribly inconsistent on the run thrower. He has a very weak base and arm. If his feet, core, and arm aren't all in sync his already poor accuracy gets abysmal.

Throw to the open receiver is what he's been trying. But he's so erratic, it's just luck at this point

I guess Elko either 1) didn't see the talent in the guy (which would be unfathomable) or 2) is so obsessed with rehabilitating Reed that he's willing to completely hang his hat (and this season) on Reed's performance this year. You guys can trust Elko and Reed all you want. I'm a glass half-empty kinda guy -- which means that I'm a realist --- so I remain justifiably skeptical.

I suspect Elko genuinely feels like Marcel is his guy. Not THE guy, but his guy, and Elko doesn't want to destroy the relationship nor the potential impact on the team.

Elko has stated before that he believes QB continuity is critical but he's also hinted at marcel not being the type of QB he would recruit. Marcel was just the Indian when Elko opened the cupboard. We don't know if Elko can recruit QBs as we haven't seen hart or casuga take any meaningful snaps.

Reed is never going to be a pocket passer, hopefully someone can convince him.

And he's been doing that from the pocket. Move him around and play to his strengths. He's mobile quarterback and probably been throwing on the run his entire career prior to coming to TAMU. Again, he's got to be smart and not take the hits. Learn to slide and/or run out of bounds.

No kidding! Roll him out with an option to pass and throw. Have a tight end come over the middle and a RB in the flat to throw to. If it isn't there, he runs! The best play to run and we never do it. Blows my mind.

Didn't they say they were going to call plays more to his strengths this year (I.e. roll him out, move the pocket)?

I do care who your QB is, with the portal and NIL, the coach should go after the best QB he can find.

If Reed struggles this year and gets replaced, do you think he will stick around next year out of loyalty?

Rollouts actually cut the field in half. It's not more options it's just a different way of attacking

Hey I'm not the coach. I'm just telling you what Elko said. I'd like to see what hart can do for more than just one series and with 1st stringers. He's never been in long enough to get in a rhythm.

It definitely has to do with how early it is in the season and the fact that we played two nonconference games. We have run everything we can as vanilla as possible. There will be some wrinkles added this week as necessary to try and make sure that we go with a W to start SEC play. I anticipate several more wrinkles being rolled out the following week in the Bayou. From there on out the rest of the season, we should have most of it rolled out, but there will be some place and wrinkles here or there, depending on an individual opponent and how they may run defense that we feel a specific play or wrinkle, added to the offense allows for success in that particular game

I want to see more tempo. Not all the time. But at the right times. Maybe it's because we've been vanilla with the play calling. But going forward, some tempo, pre-snap motion would help Reed get into a rhythm. Going up to the line, with no motion, and clapping your hands until the play clock gets to 3 really helps out the defense. Imagine that.

Man -- that's spot on -- perhaps the thought is to turn him into a pocket passer for the NFL, but I don't think he has a future in the NFL.

You release him and let him scramble around. He leaves at least 50 rushing yards on the field every game on easy run and slide opportunities. Usually, they end up in incomplete or difficult pass and catch plays.

As I've said before, Reed is Mond redux. Passes 5 yards over the head, or in the dirt, or behind, or in front of receivers, and rarely hits a receiver in stride. Like Mond, he reminds me of a water spider the way he moves.

Regardless, after all this time and a QB coaching him, Reed still can't pass worth crap ! Until this is fixed (Reed improves or is benched) we will have little success.

Very similar, although Reed has much more upside (more dynamic runner when he wants to be).

I wish they'd just let Reed play... and not have to process so much, like he did in his first game in the '23 bowl game.

Reed looks like the exact same player he always has been.

Have you watched any of his games? KLEIN would often have him rollout to his left, forcing an awkward throw across his body for a prompt incompletion. Maybe Marcell's footwork has improved to include LH rollouts this year?
