I realize it is still early in the season.

However, it appears we still have the same offensive coordinator or philosophy as we've had the last two years.

Reed is a good mobile athletic quarterback. We've had three possessions so far and I don't think we've seen Reed roll out and given the option to (1) run if the field is open (try to not get hit too much), (2) throw to the open receiver or (3) throw it away if the previous two options are not available.

Bc we don't have anyone if he gets hurt.

He can pass from the pocket, but he needs to have the ability to roll out, stretch the field and move the pocket.

Make the spy get lost in traffic.

When you roll out and/or move the pocket, you're making the defense follow your lead.

When you always drop back, they basically know where you'll be as the quarterback dropping back before the ball is even snapped--the pocket never moves.

I understand the injury worry, as I don't want Reed to try and run over opponent's defensive players. As stated (1) run if the field is open (try to not get hit too much), (2) throw to the open receiver or (3) throw it away if the previous two options are not available. He needs to avoid contact and learn to slide.

Why not call plays to Reed's strengths.

I also wonder why QB2 didn't finish up on the last drive (about 2:30 minutes left). He needs to get snaps and run plays against an opposing defense.

Beyond the OL and reducing injury risk, Reed has been a terribly inconsistent on the run thrower. He has a very weak base and arm. If his feet, core, and arm aren't all in sync his already poor accuracy gets abysmal.

Throw to the open receiver is what he's been trying. But he's so erratic, it's just luck at this point

Drew Mestemaker's performance (despite his two INTs) made me sad. He followed his coach. I get that. But can you imagine what our offense would look like if we had a guy like that as our QB? And the crazy thing is that he went to a team that was winless in conference games last year. I guess Elko either 1) didn't see the talent in the guy (which would be unfathomable) or 2) is so obsessed with rehabilitating Reed that he's willing to completely hang his hat (and this season) on Reed's performance this year. You guys can trust Elko and Reed all you want. I'm a glass half-empty kinda guy -- which means that I'm a realist --- so I remain justifiably skeptical.

I suspect Elko genuinely feels like Marcel is his guy. Not THE guy, but his guy, and Elko doesn't want to destroy the relationship nor the potential impact on the team.

Elko has stated before that he believes QB continuity is critical but he's also hinted at marcel not being the type of QB he would recruit. Marcel was just the Indian when Elko opened the cupboard. We don't know if Elko can recruit QBs as we haven't seen hart or casuga take any meaningful snaps.

Reed is never going to be a pocket passer, hopefully someone can convince him.

And he's been doing that from the pocket. Move him around and play to his strengths. He's mobile quarterback and probably been throwing on the run his entire career prior to coming to TAMU. Again, he's got to be smart and not take the hits. Learn to slide and/or run out of bounds.
