When they were doing that search I said they could hire anyone they wanted, so long as it wasn't Jimbo. A&M sold out to get him, & got exactly what they (& most of you) deserved. Unfortunately, you idiots dragged a lot of us in the opposition with you.

Which was a direct result of his ignoring offensive line recruitment and development. A problem he had at Florida State, too.

I would posit that Texas hiring Charlie Strong was a better hire than Jimbo Fisher. Hear me out.

Texas paid Charlie Strong $30M including his buyout. They paid Tom Herman $40M including his buyout. They paid Sark $27M for his first four seasons which included two CFP appearances and two CFB playoff wins.

Because Strong sucked so bad, they dumped him for Herman. Because Herman sucked so bad they dumped him for Sark.

All in, Texas paid $97M over 11 years for two CFP semifinals with Sark.

A&M paid $136M over eight years (Jimbo all in plus Elko's first two) for one CFB playoff appearance under Elko.

Thus, Charlie Strong was a better hire than Jimbo Fisher.

He's still a mumble rapper, listen to his halftime speech.

I don't hate or even dislike him but he gets an overall "not meeting expectations " rating for his hfc tenure at A & M. I think stubbornness was his major issue. Hiring assistants was mixed. Adazzio was particularly bad. Elko was particularly good.

He hired Elko. That's a positive.

If it weren't for Jimbo would have Elko even been interested to coach here? Would we even had been interested in him?

There were plenty of folks who were either against his hire or, like me, who had questions about it that were basically ignored. It may have been considered the "best hire" in Aggie history by some/many, but a lot of folks went down the rabbit hole of thinking past success guarantees future success. And they refused to even ALLOW legitimate questions about Jimbo, much less consider the answer to them. (For the record, I said we should have dumped him after year 2 when it was obvious -- to me, at least -- that the results we were getting were no different than during the Sumlin era. After that sugar high of 2020, there was the extension and no going back. He HAD to work out. But he didn't).

Of course he's going to rep FSU, they might be the only ones dumb enough to hire him (and that will most likely be because he's cheap AF since he's desperate to get into coaching again)

We have precisely one coach from the last 35 years that has any interest in being associated with the school and we just erected a twelve-foot statue of him.

Yeah a grave yard of fired coaches who hate the school. Jimbo wouldn't be a bad hire for many schools. The guy will get you to 8 or 9 wins and recruit great. Time will tell if Elko can get above 8/wins in back to back years.

We've fired every coach we've ever had since the Bear. Stalllings, Sherrill and Slocum all kept relationships with the school. Fired coaches that did not win seldom keep connected with their former employer just like any other line of business. Jimbo wasn't fired by FSU so it is not surprising he reps them. We are different in that we had a few fired coaches that kept a love for A&M.
