Reed is the man this year. What I'm seeing is a bit disappointing as he doesn't appear to have progressed in any significant way this season. Having said that, lots of QBs are struggling from Mateer (always been heavily overrated) to Levitte at LSU and others such as Sellers.

So we aren't in a unique situation. But that doesn't make Reed's play so far....OK.

Multiple times Elko has refenced NFL draft picks on this team. He did the same last year. Look at LB from last year.... A 3-year starter got processed... and didn't get drafted. And what was our worst part of our defense??Run fits. You can argue that we are better at LB this year than last year.

Elko will keep a kid until he doesn't play to his contract. That happened to York. That will happen to Reed.

If it is Brady, or a transfer, who knows.... But it won't be Reed. There is a better chance of him playing at Tech next year than in the NFL.

There is a certain level of production he wants at that position. He has given Reed everything he needs to be successful (QB Coach, Playmakers at skill positions, revamped OL, Summer training) If he can't, why waste another year?

This is the downside of NIL If there wasn't a NIL, York would still be here. We would be "glazing" him and talking about how good he is. Instead, we have 4 LBs who have more NFL traits and can (hopefully) make more plays than York

Well said. York was obviously too slow to be a high end starter and if we can move on from a team leader like that we can move on from anyone. The defense will be elite this year and the strength of the team. With improved LB play for sure. Mikhail and Sanford and Coney all look fast enough

I personally like Tamario Watkins. He's tall and rangy. I think he could be our next Edge Cooper

Yeah he is a stud. There is a reason he was borderline 5* before he reclassified. Dude is a stud and like Billy said, he would start for a lot of teams in the SEC. If he is as good as the coaches think he is, he is likely going to the NFL after 27, but who knows maybe he returns for a fourth year in 28

If we have a one and done qb sitting on the bench, Elko should be fired and I'm as pro-Elko as it gets. Also Billy is ******ed so there's that.
MLC88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Well, what you just said was ******ed. I mean the kid comes in red class early last year and of course he's gonna sit the bench. He needed physical and mental development for the position. The timing of It All made it impossible for the commitment and the amount given to Reed along with the hope of seeing Marcel take his big step forward this year and committed to making that happen, that it only made sense. He was going to set the bench this year. But that's now two years of physical and mental development and being ready for the position and with the athletic ability and skill set that he came out of high school with, it does make sense that he could be one and done in the 27th season. I hope that's clear enough for you so you can understand it.

So he's gonna go from a backup to Marcel Reed to a one and done qb in one year? If he's that good, he can start now.
MLC88
How long do you want to ignore this user?
AG
Yeah, I guess maybe he probably could. I don't know. But I think it's great to have two guys that are capable of doing that and one that we're paying a whole lot less too but capable of starting sitting in the bench that's a great backup to have if something happens to Marcel.

I think money, commitment, wise, and what they're expecting Marcel to take a step for this year is what's keeping them with Marcel but that's just my opinion. I'm not in Elko's head. I do trust Elko though so I think he's probably making the right decision. I think it would be a lot to ask to throw this kid in there with the offensive line was that we're dealing with early in the season right now. That sure the hell doesn't make sense if that's what you're implying as to questioning why he's not starting in Marcel is. Say what else I was doing makes sense but that's just my opinion. I thought I cleared it all up in the previous post but evidently maybe I didn't. Hopefully this little tidbit helps. You understand better.

I sure as hell think Billy has a much better idea and is closer to the program than these dumbasses that are just national pendants putting out whatever they want to try to vest interest. You can say what you want, but Billy does have a long-standing close relationship with the program and that fact isn't deniable. So like somebody posted earlier that they think Billy's ******ed, even if you feel that way that's fine but it's undeniable that he has closer ties and has typically better information than just some Joe off the street that doesn't even work close to the program.

Can we go ahead and agree he should be our #1 portal priority after this season?

This is the type of QB that takes a stacked roster like ours deep into CFP.

He will be a target of most teams. He could cost 10 million dollars. However, he is a Mississippi State kid through and through. It will be tough to pry him away.

Many Power 4 teams will try to lure Kamario Taylor away, but he will probably stay at Mississippi State because he is a lifelong Mississippi State fan from Macon, Mississippi, roughly 35 miles from campus. After Mississippi State dominated Minnesota 38-13 on the road, I think will win 3 or 4 SEC games to finish 6-6 (3-6 SEC) or 7-5 (4-5 SEC). They have winnable road game at South Carolina this Saturday and winnable home games against Missouri, Oklahoma, Vanderbilt, and Auburn. They will likely be double digit underdogs in a home game against Alabama and in road games at LSU, Texas, and Ole Miss, but i won't be surprised if Mississippi State steals one of those 4 games.

Billy tells people what they want to hear to keep the hype machine rolling. Interest in the program is going to drive business for TexAgs. Pretty simple.

He will be the #1 priority for a bunch of teams, I assume we will be included in that. Miss St will probably even offer him a decent amount to stay, they won't be near the top, but he'll make good money staying if he choose to do so.

My gut says he stays, or at least I hope he does.

I'd actually be shocked if they didn't steal one of those games. Kamario to me to has that special it factor that only comes along every few years. I think he's a special talent.

I think MSU will back their modest dump truck up to Taylor's lawn and challenge him to decline it. It might harm their roster, but he's a program redefining type of guy. Fans will show up just to watch him. It's possible some middle round type WR talent could take a bit less just to play with him, too. I suspect he stays.

I agree that Kamario Taylor is a transformational player with extraordinary talent. I think Mississippi State can win a home game against Alabama and/or a road game at Ole Miss, but they will probably lose road games at LSU and Texas by double digits.

wow, what a brave prediction. msu might win a home game against bama, might win at ole miss, but definitely gets obliterated at lsu and tu by double digits. truly groundbreaking analysis. let me know when you're finished clutching your pearls and discover the revolutionary concept that college football games can actually be unpredictable. maybe if we had your brilliant predictions, kennedy wouldve still been in office!

You're comparing a frail pocket passer with "potential" like Hart to a dynamic dual threat in Kamario Taylor.

So far the strategy has been "upgrade where you can as best you can"
Seen it on defense and the WR room one example being a Miss St WR who's the best in the conference now

Additionally, Elko was 1 of just 10 coaches who offered Kamario in HS

I've feared this. And if true, it needs to be brought up 24/7.

Going all in on this #1 class of HS recruits but not on one proven player at the most critical position… doesn't make sense and I wanna know whose fault it is. If it's the donors or Elko.

I don't think that applies because now we have a competent HC and staff. And a pipeline of top players at every other position.

Shouldn't have to wait for the '27 OL and '28 Tabron to be upperclassman. When you can pounce on both current scenario and future scenario

What specifically makes it impossible for us to do that other teams don't have to deal with?

You can't just keep saying "it's not that easy"
vander54
How long do you want to ignore this user?
S
not every team is doing it first off

second Elko has a culture he wants to build so he is being selective on who he goes after

third you have to look at your position groups and evaluate what would happen to the room if you add a transfer

fourth strategy of team building. if we have x amount if dollars how much can we spend on each position group/player. so do we spend a little less per player but have a deeper team or go heavy and pray for a healthy season. do we focus on QB at the risk of our defense not getting the funds needed, etc

those are just a few
