If we were to go 9-3 with close losses to Mizzou, Bama, and OU, beat tu, and miss the playoffs, would that be considered a successful year? I lean towards not, but I wouldn't be "mad" like if we went 8-4 or worse. On the other hand, if we went 9-3 but had close losses to LSU, Bama, and OU, still a win against tu, but no playoffs, wouldn't that feel a lot better? Idk, but it seems like to me it's quite a bit different. What do y'all think? Are there any scenarios not making the playoff that feel successful?

We have one of the most talented rosters in football. Winning a playoff game is success, anything less is various version of failure.

That's the minimum measure of success in any sport for a season. You have to do that to put yourself in a position to play for championships.

Success for me is being in the playoff picture until the last week of regular season.

I am happy as long as I can turn on the TV and still know my team is playing for something.

It's too hard to known these days. Last year looked like a gauntlet and serval teams ended up sucking.

Playoffs is the metric. The problem is too many dorks think anything other than that is an abysmal failure. There are levels.

If we go 9-3 and miss out on a decision by the committee that doesn't mean everything sucked. Enjoy the ride. I'm truly sad for people who couldn't figure out a way to enjoy last year's run. It's like they still don't understand we went 11-1 in the SEC.

I try not to set my expectations just simply off desire and no rationality so I never end up being a cliff jumper on here when our W/L doesn't end up meeting or surpassing where all on here don't set realistic expectations and want to burn down everything.

I have said since spring 7-5 floor and ceiling at 10-2 with likely landing spot at either 8-4 or 9-3 and Billy months later somewhere in late June or in July stated basically the same almost word for word. I am starting to lean 9-3 probably due to my slight emotion and non rationale joining in. Let's say it this way, I am hoping for 9-3 and I think we will know early in the bayou. If we beat Kiffin, I am leaning heavier towards 9-3 but lose in the bayou and your odds of getting over the 8-4 mark becomes heavily against the odds (you will have to have more bounces go your way)

Figure out who the QB is going to be next year.

Make the playoffs is a minimum with the resources and money put into this program. Win a playoff game is a successful season at this point.

A few thoughts… first, I don't think we have one of the most talented rosters. Second, we've had some good wins the last couple of years, but I think our overall record has been deceiving.

Success always begins by winning your conference. It's the only thing you have complete control of. Then go find a way to win the national championship if given an opportunity.

I am predicting two losses on the road between Bama, OU, and LSU. It will come down to not losing at home. Three losses, and we are out of the playoffs. Not a successful season, even though 9 wins will feel good.

Sure I want to win the conference but the playoffs are what matter most. I would rather win a playoff game then win the conference and lose our only playoff game.

It's possible we make the playoffs at 9-3.

Totally agree. 9-3 with our schedule should get you into the playoffs, especially if we beat t.u. at home to finish the regular season. But I have no confidence in the CFP committee to strongly consider SOS. They'll let a one or two loss Big 12/ACC team in before a 9-3 A&M team. Thank you Sankey for adding a ninth SEC game when eight games were already stronger than any other conference.

What is your record prediction this fall? I believe we are a 10 or 10+ win squad and we are more talented than most people realize and we have depth which isn't the case for some other top 10 teams.
