This is via Antonio Morales of the Athletic.

It was based on this scoring system:

  • National championship game appearance: 10 points
  • AP top-five finish: 8 points
  • Conference championship: 6 points
  • Major bowl/BCS/NY6/CFP appearance: 4 points
  • 10-win season: 2 points
  • Top-25 finish (outside the top five): 2 points
  • Consecutive losing seasons: -1 point
  • 1. Oregon

    2. Texas A&M
    • National championship game appearances: 0 points
    • AP top-five finishes (2): 16 points
    • Conference championships (7): 42 points
    • Major bowl/BCS/NY6/CFP appearances (10): 40 points
    • 10-win seasons (10): 20 points
    • Top-25 finishes (outside the top five) (19): 38 points
    • Consecutive losing seasons: -1 point
    Total points: 155
The Aggies won a national championship in 1939, but that was outside of our range (by a lot). Texas A&M is rarely bad, but it has difficulty reaching its ceiling, with only two top-five finishes over the past 50 years, only three 10-win seasons over the past 30 years and no conference titles since 1998 in the Big 12. After reaching the Playoff for the first time in 2025, can coach Mike Elko build on that momentum and change this program's reputation as an underachiever?

Better post than I expected. The list is just as interesting to me as the write-up.

I feel for Oregon. They've tasted it way more than we have and keep falling short. Sucks to duck

The list is what interested me as well. My buddy and I tried to do a top 10 after I saw the headline and we only hit on us, Oregon, Iowa and Wisconsin. We missed on South Carolina, North Carolina, Ole piss, Miss St., Pitt......and tceh (I told him it was a dumb pick).

50 years? It's been a little bit longer then that. I'll be 86 September 2. We haven't won a natty in football in my entire lifetime! Time is running out for me.

    Home attendance Rank (Top 10):

    [ol]
  • Michigan
  • Penn State
  • Texas A&M
  • Ohio State
  • Texas
  • Tennessee
  • LSU
  • Alabama
  • Georgia
  • Florida

Texas A&M is the only one that has not won a recognized national championship in the past 50 years.

This is a harsh reality, but I feel Elko is the coach who will fix this.

So there have been 23 different schools that have won a NC over the past 50 years. Does that mean A&M is the 25th best program over the past 50 years?

To give you the other side of this discussion. Would you rather be Oregon and A&M or some team like Colorado or Georgia Tech? They have a national championship, funny that they share it, and have been pretty terrible the other 49 years.

I was thinking the same thing. Add Pitt, Washington(maybe not because they have been consistently solid), BYU, and maybe Auburn. I know I wouldn't trade places with any of these programs.

Another stat-A&M only needs to outpace LSU by 9 wins to pass them for 12th on the all time wins list.

I pray you live long enough to see the Aggies lift the NC!
