Agree though I would include Duke with the desirables, they're just that much of a draw for basketball season.

I also strongly believe that there will be some kind of grace period for these ACC schools to abandon ship and move to the P2 before becoming more or less permanently stuck in the G8

PCSA limits growth of conferences to 19 schools which is one more than current Big Ten membership. The anti-trust exemption establishes that limit apparently. I appreciate that we can imagine it don't true, but the intent of the bill is to prevent that expansion several different ways not to support it.

They specifically wrote the rules so ND to the B1G can happen any time. The 5 years as an Indy rule doesn't apply to Domer and (I think at some point) ND was to only count as 1/2 a school for expansion purposes (I know, I know, special treatment for the Irish?! What?!)

Yes but the point is those games are dead and buried in the modern era and it would be miserable if federal law said we couldn't ever play anyone out of conference except those teams and we had to subsidize them through collective TV rights

The SEC is 100% right in demanding there was language in the bill that said we could not be forced into doing that

I don't like these weird out of conference scheduling requirements because these "rivalries" ended many years ago.

I agree. I was not advocating for a return to those games. I was simply pointing out that I'm old enough to remember the old SWC foes coming into Kyle Field.

So it didn't make it to a vote before Congress adjourned for its summer vacation. It IS scheduled for another vote when they return in September.

But as others have noted, a lot of people are unhappy with it.

The B1G and SEC have made it clear they will not support any form of the bill that requires them to pool their rights with the rest or force them to play certain teams as part of their schedules.

So we'll see but right now it's not looking great for this bill

So you have to pay a pretty massive fine around $130 million but again if that or getting locked out of the P2 forever, they'll find it.

The bigger issue is timing now that the August date has passed and ACC teams can not give the required notification to the conference before the legislation kicks in. So expect the exception to now be rewritten to a one year grace period from the adoption of the bill to join another conference

Look what overspending did for LSU. $130M is a ton for an athletic dept. I expected to get some granularity on those details for LSU, but had to skip golf today. Maybe later in the week.
