Even if we sign the #1 class, it's meaningless unless we can keep them from transferring and then not filling holes with portal talent.

this
we recruit the talent. weed through and develop them.
historic power programs w/ deep pockets pick over players who we've carefully cultivated.
puts us on defense
they make outrageous money offer and we now have to match or our investments go poof
hate this current form of the portal/ NIL/ etc

Cignetti is a great coach. He brought in his players who he developed at JMU plus transfers so the age and experience helped.

But the biggest impact he had was having his QB who was the #1 NFL draft pick on his team last year. If us or Miami switch QB's with Indiana then one of those two teams are the national champions.

Agree with your overall point, but this lie about Indiana's average age has to stop. It's literally mathematically impossible for it to be 24 without a slew of 27-30 year olds

The average age of the starters was 23 with their average experience being 3.9 years. Not sure how that's mathematically impossible.

However I've also seen Miami's average starter was 3 months older than Indiana's
Nope, wrong again. Here is a breakdown of IU's starters by age:

20 - 2
21 - 4
22 - 6
23 - 8
24 - 2

That's an average of just over 22.
The false narratives surrounding IU's success are hilarious!

90% of HS players and transfers care about one thing….$. They aren't longhorns, Aggies, or tards. They're mercenaries. Like it or not. Just watch the softball natty tonight

Georgia continues to be the toast of the conference despite everyone predicting their downfall and they heavily rely on HS recruiting and developing them in the program. Nothing wrong with copying that model. We're still in the transfer portal hard.

I think the SEC is in trouble. Geography no longer matters, bags of cash no longer cut it, the northern schools have more money than the bamas and the gergias

one thing is clear, the SEC is wide ass open

Their QB executed their system really well, yes.
Very accurate too.
But people tend to dismiss how great of a job their coordinators did with their plans and schemes, in terms of what they had relative to who they were playing

Still, 3 out of the current top 4 are sec teams, plus I expect at least a few more to break the top 10

It's called poaching. They wait til the end and grab the best from other teams when it counts. Early commitments have very little value in today's market.

These two things matter most…
a. How much does the player cost?
b. When will he realistically play?
Almost every kid in the country needs 2-3 years of development before they can be expected to be serious contributors at the highest levels of the sport. It is what it is. While the recent success has certainly been exciting, no one wants to be told that a kid's commitment is "HUGE", only then find out that it'll be 2029 or 2030 before you even begin to truly learn whether your 1 in 4 chance is going to make it.
I wish it wasn't the case, but the portal has changed everything.

Well it's a good thing we killed it in the portal too

The first class where NIL money mattered was 2022. We are now working on the 2027 class and UGA has ranked 3, 2, 1, 3 and 5 nationally for 2022-2026) per 247. Why didn't the geographic issue exist for the first 5 years of NIL? I'll say it again-UGA does not have the most money in the world but they have a coach who has a reputation for developing and sending guys to the NFL so no, it's not all about NIL money. It's the same formula as it has always been. Get a head coach who can get guys to the NFL and that coach will recruit lights out..and you can't just have one top 3 class and expect anything. You have to do like Kirby Smart has been doing for a decade-top 5 classes EVERY year to win.

Yea I agree. Elko has said something to this effect. There's a lot of high paying schools out there with a lot of money. NIL has become commoditized to an extent. Sure you still have to pay players what they're worth - but if they're deciding between 5 different P4 offers all offering them NIL deals in the same ballpark (+/- 10%), players will go where they think their development will be best long-term for their career. In other words, programs have to differentiate themselves.

How many of you when looking at different job offers took a job solely based on what was the highest paying job available? You didn't consider any other factors such as company culture, industry, interest, job function, location, work-life balance, who you manager would be, etc.? It's almost like it's similar to taking a normal job- sure income is important, but there's more to it than just money that influences decision making.
