When you look at the timeline, Cincinnati is in a very vulnerable position with the NCAA regarding their knowledge of Sorsby's gambling and their failure to report. It would be incredibly stupid for them to turn him in. Likely scenario is that it had to be a school that was outside Sorsby's orbit that turned him in, one that could not be linked to him in any way. It had to be a school that would benefit from the chaos. Possibly a school that has a history of running to the NCAA when any other school starts to encroach on their territory. I wonder who that might be....

What evidence is there that he got "turned in" by a school? Perhaps someone he knows on campus, or elsewhere, tipped someone off.

Do we know? The article said, "according to sources," he bet on Indiana... Cincy, as an institution, wouldn't know that unless someone who knew the kid told them. It is just as likely someone who knew he was going into rehab talked.

Besides, why would it be "incredibly stupid" for Cincy to turn him in, if they did? If they just found out about it this spring, what blowback are they afraid of?

Along with that case, Texas Tech president Lawrence Schovanec also stated in a letter to the Texas Tech community that the school plans to appeal the NCAA's ruling.

"We believe that given the facts and the context of Brendan's case, the NCAA's ruling should be reversed or modified," Schovanec wrote. "As a generation of college athletes face the legalization and rapid proliferation of sports betting in our country, gambling addiction is rising to the point of epidemic among college aged men in particular. The NCAA's stated mission includes "fostering [student-athletes'] lifelong well-being", and they have claimed their goal is to promote a "culture of care" for student athletes' mental health. Gambling addiction is a clinically recognized behavioral disorder."

College sports across the board; in my opinion , has taking a big hit on its soul, meaning and purpose as early as this season. Bowl games were simply not the same to me this year. If scumbag harbaugh can get off Scott free for having a minion spy on opponents on a championship run year, I can see a scumbag judge granting an injunction to allow sorsby to draw this out so he can play.

If there is money to be made here, sorsby will play somehow. If tech's sugar daddy has no friends or cachet that matter, he won't play.

You can always count on tech to embarrass itself for sure.

In this version of America, there is almost always a judge somewhere that will permit worship at the alter of the dollar, in lieu of regulation and elementary ethics. If I had to WAGER Sorby's will make millions playing football, this fall.

Are you saying that gambling is not an addiction, or that tceh's pres is saying that? It 100% is an major addiction. It has for sure spread like a cancer across the industries targeted demographic. When pared with the marketing of it by universities and sports media it is the nadir of institutional ethics.

Are we to expect that the gambling industry is targeting young men in their mid-20s by chance? A group of people whose brain development is not complete, particularly the prefrontal cortex which handles impulse control and risk assessment, is an accident?

I have a feeling it is very widespread. I read an article a long time ago about college basketball players involved in point shaving. I wish I could find it again. They got in debt and started shaving points to earn money to pay off the debt.
