13th Man. Which is one louder.
Quick! Trade Mark this!
Speaking of trademarks, who is our new czar. Seattle is getting out of hand again. 12's are fine, 12th Man infringement, is not acceptable.
Yep. Looks like after we renewed the contract with Seattle in 2016, they restricted the use of "12th Man" to "12".
Good on our TAMU Leadership.
The 2006 Settlement AgreementAfter Texas A&M filed a trademark infringement lawsuit, the parties settled with the following terms:
- Initial Payment: A one-time lump sum of $100,000.
- Annual Royalty: An annual fee of $5,000.
- Duration: A 10-year term (initially 5 years with a 5-year renewal option).
The 2016 RenewalWhen the original deal expired, a new, more expensive five-year agreement was reached:
- Upfront Fee: $140,000 (for the five-year term).
- Annual Royalty: $18,000 per year.
- Enforcement Fee: An additional $10,000 per year to help Texas A&M protect the trademark from other infringers.
- Total Annual Obligation: Approximately $28,000 per year.
Usage RestrictionsUnder the 2016 deal, the Seahawks agreed to further restrict their use of the phrase. They removed "12th Man" from the stadium's
Ring of Honor and stopped using it on
social media. This led the team to shift their branding almost entirely to "12" or "12s," which the Seahawks own independently.
