I am not surprised that Judge Robert Whitwell ruled that Chambliss clearly met the criteria to receive a medical redshirt for a sixth season.

Whitwell detailed that the NCAA ignored medical evidence in denying Chambliss' waiver and the quarterback would suffer irreparable harm if denied this year. The judge concluded that Chambliss submitted adequate medical reference and that the NCAA didn't act in good faith in denying the waiver.

"This decision in a state court illustrates the impossible situation created by differing court decisions that serve to undermine rules agreed to by the same NCAA members who later challenge them in court," the NCAA said in a statement. "We will continue to defend the NCAA's eligibility rules against repeated attempts to rob future generations of the opportunity to compete in college and experience the life-changing opportunities only college sports can create.

"The NCAA and its member schools are making changes to deliver more benefits to student-athletes, but the patchwork of state laws and inconsistent, conflicting court decisions make partnering with Congress essential to provide stability for current and future college athletes."

As predicted, NIL and its derivative fallout making a mockery of college athletics.

Last week we had a pro basketball player return to Alabama and beat us. Now this. And next month, who knows...nothing has or will surprise me.

Even if a "workable solution" to reel in the chaos and restore some stability was agreed to today, there will always be some athlete and his lawyer somewhere filing a lawsuit claiming obstruction or damage to what he "deserves". This is becoming a more entertaining sport that the sport itself.

If the NCAA disagrees with the ruling, can they not take away scholarships or issue some other sanctions against Ole Miss? I know they can't deem them ineligible for the playoff since that's a separate entity.

Lol. And to thank about the huge backlog our courts have and amount of overhead tax payers are having to pay for. But yay, this is important stuff to get right.

They can't really retaliate like that over a court order. Ole Miss would go back in front of this judge and get that taken care of.

This is going to be a mess and the NCAA is not going to be able to do much about it as long as a player or school can go to places like Pittsboro, Calhoun County Mississippi (NOT where Ole Miss is located) to get state judges to rule on these things.

Well, at this point we need to ask Johnny to get in shape and come back to play for aTm. He isn't in the NFL or under a pro contract, only played 2 years in college, and the precedent has been set that all we have to do is prove irreparable harm if he is not allowed to play for us and make $$$.

Why would the NCAA show up for a circus ruling by a biased local judge. If that was filed in NY or CA the result would have been different. It's all a BS a show now.

Will be shocked if Aguilar isn't also granted the same via local biased judge in Knox County, TN.

It wasn't a circus ruling. And it's completely unprofessional to not show up.


Why would a case about Mississippi law be filed in California or New York?

The judge's hour-long rambling comes down to this:

The NCAA denied Trinidad's waiver b/c there was no documentation of a medical redshirt in 2022.

The judge says they acted in "bad faith" by "ignoring" 2025 submissions of his medical records & doctor's letter.

Case closed.

I'm not saying this judge was legally correct. I don't know Mississippi contract law and don't know of any poster here that does. Just because you don't like the outcome does not make it a clown ruling.

Circus freakshow

Why are all these schools funding the NCAA to battle court cases against its membership? This seems like a mess.

I thought the lawyers said they were not going to be available at that time but I don't really know what happened.

Forum shopping county judges for rulings on eligibility is a circus of a system even if the specific ruling was not. And I don't love the idea players can get a medical redshirt year without contemporaneous medical records but oh well.

It does seem a bit like the Judge knew he was in the ring on a trapeze with all eyes on him.

45 minutes into the judge's preamble to his decision (which is clearly going to be in favor of Chambliss), he randomly brings up Carson Beck playing in the Fiesta Bowl and says -- incorrectly -- that he hadn't taken a class in 2 years.

What are we doing here.

These cases need to be in the federal court system where they can start to create more broadly applicable law outside the purview of locally elected judges.

This current system is a circus. Challenging the NCAA's bylaws and rules in local state courts under vague state law principals of equity and "bad faith" is not adding any legitimacy to the system.


I understand these guys were lawfully allowed to file where they did. But filing in a local court with all of two judges who are locally elected and essentially spend their time as family/probate judges isn't what we need.

you are going to need another constitutional amendment if you want state law breach of contract claims against state entities to be in federal court.

Not without federal legislation it can't. Several states don't allow "public employees" to collectively bargain.

The good news from all of this is that both L$U and tu have to play them, which without Chambliss were easy Ws for them. With Chambliss, I definitely think L$U loses and tu is 50-50 since they get them at home.
