My favorite part of TexAgs is when we dismiss a smaller program because "they've played a bunch of nobodies" and then we proceed to get our heads handed to us by said dismissed team. Never change, TexAgs!

Mestemaker was effective but his throwing motion is very odd. We already get enough passes swatted or tipped and that almost sidearm motion wouldn't play well against bigger and longer armed defenders imo.

He played for a very good coach in Moriss. His line and talent around him was not what Reed has. Can he throw yes he'd not have missed the wide open guys Reed did repeatedly this season. Will he come here no he'll get paid by someone it may be ok st. He's better vs the zone than Reed.

He was good enough to get an offer from a mid tier power 4/5 conference. Cal is not a top tier program but they did beat our A$$ in the holiday bowl

Cam Ward went to Miami from Washington State. Not exactly a small school.

Ole Miss never expected Chambliss to play other than mob up duty.

I wouldn't call that "rolling the dice" on them, but Ole Miss certainly didn't go out thinking they found their next big name with Chambliss.

Chambliss is probably our best hope for help at the position because of the fact that he came in as a backup.

There is zero chance Elko brings in somebody capable of taking QB 1 (I disagree with this decision, just to be clear).

Perhaps we can find somebody who comes in for depth and just takes the job.

If we're truly "intelligent", the one thing we certainly shouldn't do is bet on Reed to change his bad habits and somehow become elite.

Given that fact, if we're truly intelligent, we should be picking up as strong of a QB as we can possibly get in the portal.

It's not intelligent at all to bank on Reed alone.
Not if we're serious about championships.

Zeno's a senior, so he's likely gone.
Reed's a sophomore.
Every other QB we've got is a freshman

But Brady Hart won't be a freshman next year, and if we want to continue to be able to recruit high level HS QB's, we have to show that we will develop them and not just go get a portal guy instead of letting them play.

If Elko is going to stick with Reed (he should), then I think Hart needs to be getting prepared to play in a meaningful way. He needs to get a lot of reps early on and prepare like the #1 guy. That way Wiggins can use Marcel in a way that he maximizes his strengths without worrying about getting him hurt and trying to make him a pocket passer (he's not).

True for a lot of guys, sure, but I think especially true for the underrated (out of HS) guys... the situation they pick is just as important as the $ they get.

I read somewhere that we carried 6 QB's on roster this yr and intend to do same next yr. Probably room for a transfer portal prospect or two but I'd be cautious on Mestemaker because of the odd throwing motion .

Not totally sold on him (only watched the bowl game so take this with a grain of salt).

Saw some mistakes that would have been costly against SEC, well, most power 4 schools.

But, the fact that he is pretty much not fully developed yet is promising. Idk if it's promising for us with no QB developer tho…
