Here is an article from November 28th when the team was 11-0 and Elko's QB had the 5th best odds to win the Heisman. Yes, we all know what happened next, but you can't deny the success that was enjoyed up to that point.

Elko must continue to make progress, but at least let's see what happens next year. If he regresses then let's have the conversation, but if the team takes another step they will be competing for a championship

Elko inherited Reed. No one could really blame him for sticking with Reed up to now. He took us to our best season in nearly 100 years. With that, it will be difficult to blame him if he sticks with Reed going forward.

Elko has shown he will make a change if needed. I believe Reed will start next season but if the mistakes continue I could see him mixing it up - just not sure right now who he would turn to.

Elko has shown he isn't afraid of benching a starter that is getting outplayed ie Reed with Weigman. The issue is it may not have been the players as the same issues that plagued Weigman and led to his replacement is what we were seeing with Reed down the stretch. We may see a different Reed with a new Qb coach next year.

I saw two poorly developed QBs. You saw Elko making the better choice. I saw two lesser choices.

I like Reed and I'm not sure he can be more than we have seen. But at some point it's the lack of coaching.

In today's CFB, you can't just get a high level qb to show up in the portal. Best case in the portal is you get a good retread.

Better bet is to get a great QB coach in here to coach what talent that you have here and have them beat Reed out. Oh wait, that's exactly what Elko might do!

But in all seriousness, Reed should be forced to win the starting job again after the last month of junk he produced.

I want to see a legit QB competition in the spring or Elko is Jimbo take 2. He should have benched Reed during the Miami game, but no, he rides his QB into the loss column. I am sick of the poor coaching on the offensive side of the ball.

We went to the playoffs and finished with 11 wins in his second year here after a complete rebuild post Jimbo. I'd say we are ahead of schedule.

A very critical point that id completely lost to a lot of folks on here

All they see is lost to the sips and lost our playoff game

You're both right.
But that still doesn't mean we have a good QB situation right now. We don't need to be sinking significant time into a project who's still just a maybe.

Having a QB that makes good decisions and can complete the easy throws….on time, and on target….would have beat both t.u. AND Miami.

Certainly a more cogent and effective offensive strategy makes every QB look better, wouldn't you agree?

The real question is with this improved offense, can we truly do no better than Reed at QB?

The real issue is we don't know what offense we will see next year. I get that there will be familiarity with the players and some of the staff on the offensive side of the ball but no one has ever seen a Holman Wiggins offense not even Elko. We will be building the plane in flight next season.

Should have benched Reed and put in who, exactly? O'Neill got benched vs Samford. Brady Hart is a true fish who has played maybe 20 snaps of college football. We had lots of good developmental pieces who were not ready to play. Reed was (and is) our best option and yes I mean even compared to getting a portal qb.

Elko hasn't overseen the development of our backups, either. We all saw what they looked like when they got a chance to play. Yikes !!! To have the stable of QBs we had with Reed (and his "iffyness") at the top of the heap was inexcusable.
