It is going to become more common for bigger schools to opt out of non-CFP bowls. I still be piece the best way to handle it is to have two, 16-team tournaments, the NCAA and the NIT. If we must, we can do a third, but in my opinion, if you don't make top 32 you are out! Get ready for next season.

Two tournaments would be great.

College football use to be cool cause it was different. More playoffs are not the answer.

I think playing for a giant tub of mayo still sounds better than a football nit

4 rounds of games & the winner is maybe the 13th best?

Just boot the scrub school & conf title auto bid & take the top 12

I just can't get into watching these JV bowl games. As a CFP team it just doesn't compare. Get rid of the participation bowls and keep it at the CFP only.

Let the little bros watch us big bros play on the biggest stages.

Not the worst idea

But college football has been ruined with NIL and really really bad leadership

I love college football and watch a lot of the bowl games. I don't understand those that say get rid of the bowls. If you don't like these "lesser " bowls don't watch them.

I disagree.

For a college football fan the most depressing day of the season is the day your team is officially out of the running to win the championship.

The current format keeps that alive for a while longer. And if there are two sixteen team brackets, one upper and one lower, that turn ALL bowl games into playoff games, that is a good thing. When the Ag's make the NIT in basketball it is not as exciting as the NCAA's but it does keep your interest.

I think it could work with 16 teams, no byes and only the 4 p4 conferences involved. ND would need to join one or just play in the NIT. The G5 tourney could be structure like the existing FCS tournament and should use existing bowls if possible. It means no post season for 6-6 teams with no bowl games y won't be missed.

Easiest fix would be to get rid of the bevel.

NIT would be about as well received as it is in basketball; we would see massive number of players opting out of meaningless games and it would be watered down just like the non playoff bowls

College playoff format needs tuning:
(1) The James Madison's and Tulane's for the 5th and 6th seed versus Miami and Alabama for the 7th and 8th is an absolute joke and needs to go away. Yes sure one of those teams will beat a power conference opponent every 10 years and that's how the committee will justify them staying in but it is ridiculous

(2) The playoffs don't fit in well with the legacy bowl system. I understand college football wants both due to the revenue. I think what America wants is an expanded playoff format and with that the tier 2 bowls go away. And YES I love the option where home-field advantage is provided throughout the bracket... the championship remains at a neutral location.

(3) There has to be a freeze on the portal and coaching carousel during the playoffs. We learned this with Klein - damned if you do and damned if you don't but it is not fair to the playoff teams to have to manage through all of this change and distraction during a championship pursuit. It takes away from the casual fan's experience as well.

(4) The playoff committee is a joke. Their goal is eyeballs via best matchups and that automatically translates into a bias. I do not know what the answer is to this one but with the comments coming out of the committee this year week to week makes it very clear the current format is going to continue to disappoint.

Flame away if you must...

I was surprised that, according to perplexity, not a single player opted-out of the Pop-Tart Bowl.

What made college football cool was the atmosphere, tradition and pageantry

The bowls, beauty contests and lack of a true champion were always the worst thing about college football

I think they will go to 16 teams with no byes and take some control away from the Committee by making record for p4 teams the primary qualifier before the conference title games. Forced ranking by won loss record while everyone has played 12 games, if you include ND the matchups would have been:

16 Texas at 1 Ohio State
9 ou at 8 BYU
13 Utah at 4 Tech
12 Vandy at 5 Oregon

15 ND at 2 Indiana
10 Bama at 7 Texas Aggies
14 Virginia at 3 Georgia
11 Miami at 6 Ole Miss

Ohio state and Indiana were 12-0
Georgia thru BYU were 11-1
Ou thru ND were all 10-2
tu was the highest ranked 9-3 team and would likely get the last spot.

At some point not everybody deserves a trophy and getting away from that mentality would reduce all this nonsense of more teams, 2 different tiers of playoffs, or some other variation of a playoff system. Win the games on the schedule and compete. Teams don't have to be undefeated but somebody has to be left out, it's a good lesson that needs to be brought back. Don't want to be left out work harder to not let that happen next season.

Disagree. College football was a lot more fun before the obsession over the national championship. Beat your rival, win your conference, and get a good bowl.

This is the first year I haven't watched a single bowl game

With opt outs by players a d now teams, the matchups are horrible and it's basically pointless watching the 2nd a d third stringers of teams playing each other

The bowls used to be fun because you'd get to see which teams are than others. By them going out of league to play other top teams from other leagues

That's all gone now

Playoffs are the only place you get that now

At this point, kill the bowl games and go the d1 fcs route. 24 team bracket.

Bowl games are old and dated.
