I don't know any real Ags who are walking away from this season feeling good. Everyone seems to like Elko alright but the overall sentiment is that the best course of action is to temper expectations.
This is not a national championship caliber program.

When you have your so called best season in nearly 30 years.
And we still can't even beat Texas and still can't even make the SEC title game or win anything of meaning.
Yeah it was big thud.
Still can't win anything of meaning and fall flat on the big stage.

It absolutely was the best season in 30 years. Beating the sips isn't the ultimate goal in any case.
We did thud in the playoff game, but we were in the playoff game, in year 2 of a new coach.
Year one, we were on a great run, then died at the end. Year two, we made the playoffs, but lost. Still an upward trend.
But you be miserable about it if you want.

Are we putting a banner up for making playoff and losing a 1st round home game?

In 2023 the Ags were underperforming at an unprecedented level and paid record amount of money to make Jimbo go away
Good things that have happened since Elko came to town
Broke the road losing streak
Broke the Baton Rouge losing streak
Found some great contributors through the portal
Playing the exact same schedule with the home and away flipped
Improved to 11-2 and did not lose to an unranked team
Made the playoffs
It's going to be a long off season
But The off season is always long
Merry Christmas to all

Then you don't know many "Real Ags". Real Ags, like most real people, can be disappointed with the outcome of the last two games, but feel good about the season as a whole. It was a fun ride that ended poorly. But this is why the 24-hour rule was created. Be mad for 24 hours, then move on with your life and don't dwell on it.
Temper expectations? OK, Mr. Hyman.
And that last statement is more of the same BS. We didn't win this year, but it's an indictment of how the last two games went and who's to blame for that. It's not an indictment of the entire program. To say that ignores where we were and where we are now, and where we seem to be headed.

Nah- this season ending the way it did exposed what many feared all along. This was an above average team beating up on the bottom half of a league that ran into a buzz saw.
The pumpers calling this the "best season ever" surely don't actually believe that. Ags are going to finish outside the top 10. And unless we get a serious upgrade at QB, you know in your heart this team isn't winning a natty.

No one wants to see the outcome we had but anyone who watched the last two games and comes away thinking "wasn't that great" should be ignored when it comes to football.
What was your preseason prediction?
Did you have us beating Texas and winning a playoff game? If not, then time to shut the **** up.
No, but I was hoping we would not, once again, fail on the national stage.

But, on a national stage, we went 11-0. When was the last time that happened? Early 90s? Why is there no in-between? We either win it all or we choked? Stupid take.

On a national stage, most claimed we were not legit. Most of the outlets, podcasts, national talking heads said this. Hell, even the committee chair said we were not that good and they ignored their own metrics to hammer us.
Aggies praised our 11-0 start. Not shocking. Fans are that way. But nationally, they were in a wait and see mode.
And we showed them.

And with the exact same schedule they would have been praising Texas and had sip at #1. Ole Miss, Indiana, and Oregon did no more than we did in the regular season and their schedules were never mentioned despite being easier than ours. They all got the benefit of a bye week or a creampuff warm up game. Media means nothing.

You said you hoped we would not ONCE AGAIN fail on a national stage. As if this mirrors past results. My point is that we did not do anything ONCE AGAIN. How many times have we done this well in recent history, regardless of how it ended? I suppose the difference between our views is you are looking at the end only, I'm looking at the season. How many would have expected 11-2 and CFP bid at the beginning of the season?

This season was better than expected. 100% correct. 11-0 was a hell of a lot of fun. And you also are correct, that is by far the best record we've had in quite a good minute.
However, ONCE AGAIN we are out of the post season conversation early. ONCE AGAIN we had a late season collapse that, let's be totally honest, ended in pretty embarrassing fashion. ONCE AGAIN we are already hoping for NEXT YEAR. And ONCE AGAIN even the most boisterous of sunshine pumpers is hedging their bet against a brutal upcoming schedule.

I don't know if Elko is the answer or not. But we've beaten LSU back to back for first time since 1995. Beaten a ranked team on the road for first time since 2014, and we beat all the teams on the schedule we are supposed to beat instead of dropping stupid games like in years past. The end sucked but the season still feels different. I can be mad at the losses and still recognize the positive changes. Trust me, I want the effin trophy too.

We have only had three 10+ wins in a season in 30 years. THREE. But this is like any other year to you? We got several monkeys off our back, in addition to the win streak, and making the CFP. Can you point to another season like this one?
No, post season discussions are not limited to post season only. You stated that we once again we are eliminated from post season discussion early. As if this year mirrors previous years, it doesn't for obvious reasons. Not making the playoffs is something that happened again, and again, and again. Not the case this year.
I think my issue is that you are just lumping this season in with others. It's mind boggling.

I want to see your preseason posts stating that if we go 11-1 in the regular season you think it's the same as going 8-4.
Written like someone who needs to ditch the maroon blinders.
What stage were we on during the 11-0 streak?
The national one.... and then we choked. Kinda his point.
But, on a national stage, we went 11-0. When was the last time that happened? Early 90s? Why is there no in-between? We either win it all or we choked? Stupid take.
Yes, we were on a national stage doing well…. then we choked. Again, that's all the post you initially responded to wrote. And then you repeated that we went 11-0 on the national stage and then choked.
So…. what exactly is your point?
You said you hoped we would not ONCE AGAIN fail on a national stage. As if this mirrors past results. My point is that we did not do anything ONCE AGAIN. How many times have we done this well in recent history, regardless of how it ended? I suppose the difference between our views is you are looking at the end only, I'm looking at the season. How many would have expected 11-2 and CFP bid at the beginning of the season?
We choked... accept it and move on.
While much has changed.... so much has not. Maybe Elko is the answer. Maybe not. Time will tell. However, I fully grasp those Aggies who are simply at a point of basically stating, "enough of the talk... just win a f'ing trophy".
Once again we are out of the post season conversation early? We've never been in the post season before.
So, post season discussions are limited to the actual post season? No, of course not. Such discussions become serious in late October and grow from there. But you knew this.
As far as this "feeling different"….. well, in 40+ years of following A&M I've heard that so many times it borders on the comical. I'm not interested in feels. Nor am I particularly interested in off season discussions about the great things we'll do "next year". What I really want to discuss in the off season is what the trophy case will look like that we put the NC trophy in. And since such a discussion has not been had in Aggieland since before Hitler invaded France…. I don't think that's so unreasonable.
I've also been following A&M football for decades. I can't speak for all those others who have said something that you find comical, but I am basing what I said on something none of us have seen in a long time. Once more.... I have not said, nor will I say, this was not a good season. It was. So the repetitiveness of your painting this season as "good" is quite superfluous. Its almost was if you're trying to convince yourself.
What is truly "mind boggling" is to take a data set of one season and think that presents a clear picture of the path forward. Our repeated failures don't simply vanish because we went 11-0 (an 11-0 which, sadly, was in part to a very generous schedule playing the bottom half of the SEC) and got embarrassed in the first round of the playoffs. So, here we sit. A disappointing end, a QB that for all his skill clearly is lacking in certain areas, two new coordinators, a struggling OL, and an upcoming schedule that is brutal.
Let's hope the improvements we saw this year continue.... I hope Elko nothing but the best and pray he wins the whole damn thing. I'm simply no at a point where I have such belief in this team that I'd drop hundreds on Cotton Bowl tickets like some only to be find myself lucky to give them away. Faith or belief in this team to the point that I'm doing that simply has to be earned at this point.
