Apparently we can't discuss general CFB news on this forum.

guess not...the new news on the story was that he had a bourbon with assistant coaches in his office after a game. Crazy to get fired over that.

Were the assistants actual coaches or blonde 20 year olds?

Smith acknowledged "on occasion, a few assistant coaches, all over the age of 21, joined him privately in his office after games for a single drink of bourbon. -Fox

How does that get you fired? I get public campus... I imagine there is no way this is unusual after hours. These guys work a ton.

I think coach is trying to frame the narrative that he's a victim of an overzealous administration. Here's what the Columbus Dispatch had to say.

Ohio University says coach Brian Smith had affair with a student
https://www.dispatch.com/story/news/local/2025/12/18/ohio-university-coach-brian-smith-fired-relationship-student-college-football/87829300007/
Quote:

Ohio University fired head football coach Brian Smith after he admitted to having an extramarital affair with an undergraduate student, records obtained by The Dispatch show.

The university terminated Smith's contract on Dec. 17 for cause. Smith had been placed on leave Dec. 1, and has vowed to fight his termination after just one season leading the Bobcats.

In a letter dated Dec. 12 to Smith from OU President Lori Stewart Gonzalez, Smith is accused of carrying on the relationship with the student on campus at the Ohio University Inn.

Well that is certainly a justified cause for firing. Thinking with the wrong head...

This makes sense...I don't understand how these guys can throw away millions for a woman who is not their wife. Financially speaking, go get a divorce and find a new wife if you don't like her. Not condoning...

Well kudos to him for not losing his **** and trying to kill her and himself. Silver linings, I guess.

Ah, ok. The bourbon story just didn't pass the sniff test (I guess pun intended). Co-eds, that definitely passes litmus

Has to be an ego thing. Think they're invincible and can have their cake and eat it to

Obviously its his side of the story, but per the article he was already separated and in divorce proceedings.

Yea, probably not the best choice, but I was responding the comment regarding the extramarital affair, which per his attorney is not accurate, as he was getting divorced.

Further down the rabbit hole though, and not condoning it, but once again per his attorney, it wasn't against the universities code of conduct, so legally speaking it could be interesting if they can fire him for cause.

Same can be said for bourbon.

hmm. Neither are married - or at least he was in the process of getting a divorce. She wasn't a minor. He wasn't her boss, she's not an employee of the university. As long as they were both consenting adults and it wasn't spelled out as forbidden in the university code of conduct for employees or in his contract - then I guess power to him.

That's not how it works. It's still an extramarital affair until you're divorced.

Bingo, and in my experience, his current wife is the one making sure his employer is well aware of his marital status. Separated is still married and I'll assume this is the groundwork of her intending to hit him hard with a child custody filing.

This is crazy to me that extramarital affairs are really a fireable offense. This is college football, not seminary.

It is a ****ty thing to do and they absolutely deserve it, don't get me wrong, but I feel like the wives should be able to go after the co-eds in civil court. *****s.

I think it being an extramarital affair with a student makes it a fireable offense.

It would be great if the student were a stripper with a stage name of Bourbon.
