They remind me of the OU teams that emerged from the Big XII with a "devastating defense" .

Those OU teams went 0-4 and the only close game was a 54-48 OT loss to Georgia.

They lost those games on average 50-32.

The Big XII is really really bad this year.

Am I seeing this wrong?

Definitely a possibility they could be shown an embarrassing early exit.

I think the Big 12 is definitely down, but they beat everyone in it by 4 TD's except when their QB1 was unavailable. They are going to be a really tough out for someone.

Arkansas would probably go undefeated against a schedule of FCS teams. Might even threaten a bunch of SEC teams. But doesn't mean they could win in the SEC.

Hard to say, I've watched large portions of several of their games. They looked pretty good to me. The cool part is we get to find out on the football field with the playoffs.

Yes.

They have ~4 players that are currently projected to be high level nfl contributors. They have a DLine that would be a top third in the SEC.

I don't believe in them as a potential champion, but that's not because of their defense.

Their defense is legit, but winning the Big 12 isn't something that should be as highly valued as the committee is making it.

Oregon has the chance to throttle them to where it's a blowout by halftime

I'm not arguing that several SEC schools would not have had the same record.. I'm just saying they did exactly what they were supposed to do, which is beat bad teams badly. They didn't just limp across the finish line in any of those games. Their defensive front 7 is among the best in the country, and their offense is balanced enough to put up points.

If they get beat it will be because their secondary has some issues (you better get the ball off quick though) and the O-Line has trouble keeping Morton on his feet.

There isn't much wrong with that Tech football team... Y'all act like they are over rated because they are in the Big 12...? I get it but they have done nothing but win and put away their opponents.

Media has dogged us for playing bottom 1/2 of SEC and here we are doing the same thing to Tech because of their conference.

I think they are good enough to compete with most of the other teams in the playoff. Do I think they'll win it all? No. But I'd say basically the same thing about us, so I'm not sure that really anything to laugh at.

This. They treated every team they played like a lower tier opponent all year, except minus Morton vs. Arizona State. There were only a couple of spots in games that it even looked like their opponent might be able to stay on the field with them.

I guess anything can happen but there is zero evidence to support this statement.

I don't remember those OU teams from the teens being touted as strong defensively. Hell, Bob Stoops fired his brother Mike as DC late in his tenure, and Lincoln Riley's teams never played defense.

There are several teams in the bottom half of the sec that would win the big 12.

The talent gap between the big 12 and SEC is massive. Like not even close. The big 12 is literally closer in talent to the G5 than it is to the SEC.

Tech's defense is legit. They will lose because of their offense. They are awful in the red zone in the games I've watched.

Their defense will keep them in every game they play in the playoffs unless the offense just has a bunch of turnovers

Their quarterback wasn't very accurate in the game I watched, but maybe he didn't like the coverage.

There is a talent gap in terms of future NFL talent. There are zero teams in the bottom half of either the Big 10 or SEC that would win the Big XII.

Past Georgia, it would be a toss-up whether Ole Miss, Texas, Texas A&M, or Alabama could win the Big XII this season.

I think they will underperform expectations.

But I'm glad we aren't playing them because they have some weird voodoo over us.

Ah, yes. Beating the 6th place team puts MSU in position to win the conference.

So……kinda like the TAMU teams of the late 80s and early 90's coming out of the old SWC?

Tech is good. They're not squeaking by folks. They're burying pretty much everyone. We don't have any room dogging them when they would probably have the same record as we do vs the teams we played. Our schedule wasn't exactly Burma Road.

I don't pay much attention to the dumpster fire but didn't tcu get beat by 10 TDs against somebody in the 4 team playoff when they won the big 12? Tech can't compete with the top teams and the results will show that they are closer to an 8 seed and why byu is the only 1 loss p4 team not in.

Tard is good and deserving of the CFP. Had we not choked, they'd be hosting. Anyhow, Oregon is probably favored by 2.5 when they meet.

I'm not that sold on Oregon either. It's not like they have a bunch of big wins. Both teams have questions as to how good they are because they haven't had a lot of competition this season.

Watch the first 30 seconds or so of this video. Tech's defense is nasty.
Morton is our achille's heel. If he gets hurt or has a bad night, Tech is cooked. But if he's merely serviceable Tech can play.

Any of the P4 teams in the playoffs could beat any of the others. There are no easy outs at this level.

Tech and A&M are both capable of winning the whole thing. Or they could both lose their first game.

The only team in the playoffs aside from the G5 that I feel confident won't win the whole thing is OU. They have a strong defense but their offense is awful. Any of the other 9 could get hot.

My pick to win it all is Georgia, much as it pains me to say so. They look strong.

Tceh has played 0 top 10 teams this season.

Tceh has played 3 top 30 teams this season (BYU x2 and Utah x1).

They haven't played a top 20 Sagarin ranked team since September.

Here are The Sagarin ranks and total defense for the last 6 teams they have played:

122/124
41/80
25/19
81/62
83/114
25/19

Per Sagarin, their SOS is 67th. They are the only team in the top 20 Sagarin rankings to have not played a top 10 team this season.

There are only 5 teams in the Sagarin top 50 that have a lower SOS than tceh:

JMU
USF
NDSU
UNT
Tulane

They are one of 3 teams in the top 30 to have not played a top 10 team this season. Clemson and JMU are the other two.

They are closer to JMU's SOS (104) than the are to A&M's (16).

Edit: Sine you said A&M didn't have a difficult schedule…

The Ags have played 1 top 10 team this season and 6 top 30 teams.

Here are The Sagarin ranks and total defense for the last 6 teams they have played:

47/127
23/15
29/45
19/21
237/UR
12/23

A&M's schedule was significantly more difficult than tceh's.
