Since a 9 game SEC schedule is brutal, here is a suggestion for scheduling the one required P4 non-con game.

Pick a regional P4 team that has a low probability of being good on any given year. OK State, Cougar High, Baylor, Kansas types. Schedule a home/neutral with them. They come to our place in the year we have 4 SEC home games.

Return game during the year we have 5 SEC home games is a neutral at AT&T or Reliant. Prob even swing our D's a bit for a cut of the gate.

Could do the same with non-regional teams that want to get exposure in TX. They're out there.

Profit.

Is the p4 non conference game still a requirement w the 9 game conference schedule?

I thought everyone was trying to dissolve those games since the cfp is a joke & they do nothing to help your resume

First of all, there's Power 2, Mid 2 and Group of 6.

Schedule a M2 every year, home and away. Memphis, Louisville, Pitt, so on. Never schedule a B1G school.

Also schedule a G6 and a FCS school for home and home every year.

I might do the opposite and run to Purdue or Rutgers or Michigan St.or Maryland and see if they were interested in a 10 year deal. Lock up one of their donkeys. I 100% would not play anyone on the level of a ND. Winning at ND gave us no benefit this season.

I think your sentiment is correct in regards to the scheduling big games if you are talking about tu scheduling Ohio St. They got zero benefit from it, but maybe they should have won instead of pointing at it as a great loss.

Us on the other hand, I think we got a ton of upside from playing and beating ND. That was really our only signature win. Had we played Troy or someone there instead, the conversation around us would have been different. 11-1 we would have still been in the playoffs, but we likely would have been a bubble team, not really in jeopardy of not making it, but in the conversation of the bubble, because we lost the only game to a good team we played in the tu loss.

There's zero incentive to play anything but Rice level competition for your 3 OOC games.

Tech played nothing but little sisters of the poor and SOS hasn't hurt them all

Arizona State seems a fine choice…

A couple of years ago, I'd have included Indiana in that group. Thus is the danger. The B1G and SEC schools are filthy rich and can pop up and get good fast.

I think if we had rice instead of ND on the schedule, we would have been behind BYU going into championship week (i.e. out).

Our best win would be 8-4 Missouri with their 3rd string QB.

11 wins without ND would have still been in. We are the lowest 11 win team with a marquee OOC win. Tech plays absolutely nobody and is the highest. Ole Miss plays trash and is ahead of us.

There is ZERO reason to play anyone other than 3 FCS schools.

This would destroy your strength of schedule. If we had done that, we probably would've had the lowest SOS in country (by the measure of the committee uses)

ASU wouldn't do a home-neutral. Plus, they are hardly a guaranteed win.
