If the committee was going to rank Miami ahead of them they would have already done so.

We play them unless BYU or Alabama win, I am not predicting either of those to happen, but you never know.

Alabama will not move down for losing, championship games only have upside for the winner and no downside for the loser unless it's a total blowout.

If we manage to beat ND at home then it's #2 UGA in NOLA for the Sugar Bowl. Kind of a worst case scenario, but most likely scenario in my opinion.

I'm a Tide and Mormon fan tomorrow to slightly shake up the bottom half of the seeding. But we really only want one to win, if they both win there's a chance we end up on the road for the first round.

I'm not saying that. ND proved is it has more power than any other school in 2020.

If BYU loses, which is pretty likely, they stay where they are, ND and Miami stay where they are. If they were going to put Miami ahead of ND they would have already done so. I agree that's what should happen, but it's Notre Dame, they will ALWAYS get the benefit of the doubt.

My clinical side says ESPN wants the ND fan eyes/$ so the committee will stretch to "keep" them in if they can get away with it.

Notre Dame may be playing the best FB in the country right now. Hoping for someone else in the first round.

Ugh. I don't want to be in the road, man. We'd be, like, stuck in the asphalt. Hot, sticky and trucks running over us.

Kirk Herbstreit said days ago that he'd more surprised than not if ND isn't kicked out and replaced by Miami if BYU loses, due to H2H.

disgree, if they lose, they will drop at least one

also, dont forget, if Duke wins there would be no official ACC rep, which means they would have even more pressure to put an ACC team in

The committee is playing games with teams on how they position them on their rankings.
It is all about the best final CFP matchups that will generate the most money.

There is No Logic being used here. No Metrics being used here.
That is why so many people, coaches, analyst and players are pissed off.

Notre Dame will be the first ones out. Alabama must be protected.
Miami will be placed into Notre Dame's spot.

I think Bama does move down if they lose and flip spots with ND. The only reason they flipped them last week was to prepare for Bama's loss tomorrow. Bama stays in (check) and ND is buffered from the head to head comparison with Miami (check).

Um, why do you think Bama moved up a spot this week for barely beating a bad team?

Answer: so IF they lose to Georgia (i think they certainly can win) the committee can knock them down a spot and keep them in. Remember last year, Bama was making texas noise for being left out. Committee cant have that happen again. This is how.
Nothing looks more foolish than tradition to those who have none.

As dumb as the C is, even they would not move one team and ahead of another in the last week when neither of those teams are playing.

Wanna bet?

BYU is not the big problem, Duke beating UVA is the big problem. Duke isn't ranked. So no ACC in the playoffs ith Miami sitting right there for the taking to give th ACC a rep in the playoffs. THAT bums ND out..

Cant see it. I guess that conference would be left out. Moving a team down to force a conference in? Oh my. Is this required in the format. ACC has to get a team in?

No it's the five highest ranked conference champions, so if the champ of the AAC and whatever JMU is in could technically get an auto bid over the ACC champ.

ND beings more fans and eyeballs (and money) than UM and BYU (combined). Why sips think they had an argument as they have a large following of idiots out there.

If ND gets dumped in the final pole, that could push them closer to joining the BIG 10/Fox. ESPN probably doesn't want that.

I wonder what happens if JMU loses and Duke wins. Won't that leave only 1 ranked conference champion (Tulane or NT) for 2 spots?

Everyone acting like they are out because even if they get in Ags will beat them again.

You realize what that does to first round matchups, right? A&M/ND rematch, Bama/OU rematch, Oregon/G5 matchup, and Ole Miss/G5 or UVA matchup. Possibly the worst slate the committee could come up with in terms of getting people to tune in (which they most certainly consider).

Why would people not tune into those games? Just because they're rematches?

Reading this thread is very supportive of the notion that the final rankings will be driven more by the preferences of influential persons and economic factors than team quality.

Given the egos and money involved, I am not surprised.

If I'm a casual fan of the sport with no real tie to the teams playing, yeah. Why would I tune in to catch another Bama OU game that I watched less than a month ago? Same applies to OSU and Indiana. OSU could beat them by them by 50 and you still won't see them fall to the #4 seed because, if they did and they both won their quarterfinal game, they'd play again 3 weeks later.

Anybody but ND.

They are playing great and we won't beat them twice in a row.
