Campbell being hired does confirm the AD totally bamboozled this search though. Everyone was thinking there was going to be some announcement after the Conference Championship games, that he must have some pocket hire like Deboer, but this confirms he didn't. He, extremely luckily, is gonna fall ass backwards into a good coach.

Penn State may be a mess, but it's still Penn State.

I wouldn't leave another good job for it, but Iowa State?

They signed two high school players this year which is good enough for 150th in the country. Hopefully they are ready to go on a spending spree in the portal.

Ha, considering where things are at, I love this hire. It's like they were made for each other

PSU made a risky move to fire Franklin and then they were in a shockingly bad spot when they couldn't close on a candidate.

Campbell was a hot object there for a few years but never could quite get out and get a better job, and now his value has gone down.

Campbell has reached the ceiling at Iowa st so makes sense for him to want to go to a place that he believes has no ceiling

Plus I'm sure he's getting a boatload of money

Supposedly, PSU reached out to Campbell early in the process and he told them that he's interested but won't talk about the job until after the season.

Not sure if this is true or PSU just trying to cover their ass for settling for their 3rd, 4th, or 5th option.

You mean the exact way a coach should handle it. Or in other words the oppo of Kiffin.

I'm torn as I can't stand Penn State, but really like Matt Campbell. I'm not saying he's Bill Snyder, but he's won with much less talent than most.

Even though they missed out on early signing day, I think he will stabilize them and build a consistent program. Ohio State is their only opponent who has been consistently at the top, so I think he can have them as contenders soon.

Big 12 teams are probably happy as ISU will likeley return to doormat status.

Franklin is also good guy as well.

They now have hired two solid guys trying to clean up the rep JoPa left. Not sure if it's just dumb luck or on purpose.
