Several years back, Campbell was always mentioned near the top of every coaching search list. But he stayed at ISU and continued to always "be in the hunt" but always lost the big game ISU needed to advance to the BDF championship game.

He really has kind of disappeared the last 3-4 years.

I guess State Penn finally got desperate enough and he thinks it's a can't pass up opportunity for him to finally move along.

Good opportunity for Campbell though.
They'll be back because they are Penn State ... won't stay at 134/136 on recruiting rankings.

ISU is also 1 of only 3 to lose to Coach Prime's dumpster fire this year.

Hopefully for the rest of the Big Ten and the country, it isn't a repeat of the time Penn State poached Cael Sanderson from the Clowns.

That worked out really well for the PSU.

Cael is residing in that Dan Gable neighborhood now.

penn st pulled a texas a&m and stumbled into the perfect hire despite the AD screwing the pooch. matt campbell will be there a decade from now and penn st will be damn good. grand slam hire.

This was an excellent hire. Guy made Iowa state relevant. That's not easy. That said I bet they end up 10-2 again.

He shoulda been one of their top 3 choices from the get-go, IMO.

Guy turned a perennial losing program into a respectable program and kept it that way with limited resources.

Having said that, doubt if he outperforms JF in W/L % tho.

His record at Iowa State is 72-55. In comparison, Franklin was 24-15 in three years at Vandy. (Obviously, his record at Penn State was even better).

Glad they found a coach, but I'm not very convinced this was an upgrade.

Absolutely. He always gets more out of less (like the coach at BYU). Franklin did just the opposite.
