They have totally ignored BYU every step of the way, while propping up ND and Miami. BYU has a better record (having lost only to the #4 team in the CFP), better SOR and better SOS than either ND or Miami, yet ESPN will not even mention them in the discussion. I'm not a BYU fan, but that kind of naked bias is complete bs, and has no justification.

If they win this weekend the rest should take care of itself and they'll be in the Loffs.

Small market team means less money….. hate how money drives it all. Takes away how hard programs work to become relevant. Just would take a few coaches to step up and this whole thing could change, except they get paid much more than they used to also!

The point is they shouldn't have to win this weekend to be in the playoffs.

They are as much a small market team as ND. They have a worldwide following due to being the flagship institution of the LDS Church. Every Mormon I ever knew was a BYU fan...whether or not they ever went there.

Who have they beat? What would there record be if they had our schedule? If you play in a weak conference you will be dinged for it.

Every team on their schedule except for the #4 team...their only loss.

Who has ND beat?

thats not anything to write home about, but both of those teams are better than anyone BYU has beaten other than utah

I get that you feel you need to prop them up to legitimize Tech, but BYU is not a good team. I think tech is a very good team by the way. but don't blow smoke up our butts about BYU belonging in the playoffs because they beat arizona

It's not just because they are BYU, they are in the Big 12. The only reason they aren't having the same problem as the ACC is Tech.

There really are only 2 power conferences with 2 more kinda powerish conferences. You are going to need to be really good in the ACC or Big12 to make it in, and if you aren't dominating, you aren't good enough. BYU has not been dominating.

An auto disqualifier from the playoff should be losing to the same team twice (see Texas last year).

How can you claim a national championship if you lost to the same team twice already? Clearly you aren't the best team in the country.

I'm not arguing them VS ND or Miami - just saying if they lose then the comparisons don't matter. If they win, they'll be in and the comparisons don't matter.

They played a garbage schedule and lost by 3 touchdowns to the only team capable of being a top 10/15 type team in tech.

They'd be 8-4 in the sec. And everyone who watches football knows it. That's why they are ranked low.

Don't buy the sos metric you guys are being told. Playing Miami and A&M is much harder than playing tech and whoever the 2nd best team on their schedule is. Even usc as the 3rd is harder than any 3rd on that schedule.

Sagarin puts byu 20th, and is a more advanced system that factors in quality of play in compared to actual strength of opponent. Massey does have them at 11. 11 is on the high end of any efficiency metric I can find. Most have them 15-20

Vegas would have Notre dame favored by about 12-13 over BYU

I would strongly encourage many of you to stop using the AP rankings. They strongly favor records which is a microcosm of easier schedules

Sagarin does have Utah at 15, so that is a good win

Arizona is 32nd. Pitt is 30. Usce is 17. FWIW, all of Notre dame, Texas, lsu, Auburn, Missouri rank ahead of Arizona. Florida's is neck and neck with them.

Some of you would argue against us in favor in byu because of the stupid systems used to determine strength of schedule and the "rankings" which people should know are heavily skewed to records. Tulane is also ranked. Big whoop. Freaking UTSA beat them by 3 touchdowns

BYU got shredded by the only good team they have played. If they lose to them a 2nd time, they have no business competing for a national title

Notre dame has lost by 4 to two separate teams who are easily top 10 teams nationally.

it is strange the way the committee has ranked the BDF this year

especially Arizona way up at #18

that gives BYU two ranked wins in the top 20: Utah & Arizona

Being fans of a team from the hardest conference, it amazes me how so many of you argue and push for the thing that are likely to screw us the most in the future. Tougher schedules.

I can see us going 9-3 and losing out to a 10-2 or 11-2 big 12 team that we grade much higher than next season. Let's set the precedent now that if you lose twice in a mediocre conference, even if one is the title game, you don't belong.

A team that goes 9-3 against our schedule next year is much more proven and worthy than an 11-2 byu team that lost to the same team twice and played their schedule.

Here's Sagarin's conference rank. notice where the Big cupcake is, below the ACC. Neither of those leagues should have a team in the playoff. Maybe Miami since they actually proved they can beat a good team. Only thing Tech has proven is they beat the 2nd best team in the worst P4 conference who is also inflated from W&L's against cupakes. BYU has literally not beaten anyone.

In the first matchup against Tech they didn't score until 7 min left in the 4th Q, and only crossed the 50 yard line 2 or 3 times.

The big 12 is a mid major conference, where one team with a crazy billionaire trying to spend his whole fortune to buy a championship, is the only team with big boy resources.

They know only 12 teams get in so Trey use the other 13 to subvert other ranking sources? Interesting theory consistent with a corrupt Mack Rhoades seeking to serve the non Big 2 or more accurately opposing SEC traditional dominance with the B1G's "cooperation."

I use warrennolan.com, mostly because it's so good for college baseball and also offers SoS numbers for FBS football. They have BYU at #11 for SoS. That shocks me. Here's their regular season schedule this year.

W 69-0 Portland State at BYU
W 27-3 Stanford at BYU
W 34-13 BYU at East Carolina
W 24-21 BYU at Colorado
W 38-24 West Virginia at BYU
W 33-27 BYU at Arizona (Note: Arizona is currently #18 but was unranked at the time of the game)
W 24-21 #23 Utah at BYU (Utah currently #15)
W 41-27 BYU at Iowa State
L 7-29 BYU at #9 Texas Tceh
W 44-13 TCU at BYU
W 26-14 BYU at Cincinnati
W 41-21 UCF at BYU

I don't understand how a team with so many unranked opponents could have such a high SoS. The easy answer is that they're being rewarded for not playing awful teams (outside of Portland State and Colorado).

BYU SCREAMS Paper Tiger.
