The ONLY shot Texas has is the committee decides Lane Kiffin leaving is worth dropping out of playoffs completely AND the committee says Miami and Vanderbilt deserve to be jumped. I don't think either of those 2 can happen

Ole Miss has earned a spot. 11-1 with their only loss to a very salty Georgia team. They beat LSU (#4 at the time), Oklahoma (in Norman), and Longhorn-slayer Florida along the way. The only real blemishes - if you want to call them that - were a one-score win at Kentucky, a 6-point win vs. Arkansas, and a 3-point win vs. Washington State. Ole Miss also beat possible playoff team Tulane by 35 points.

Absentee head coach or not...Ole Miss deserves a spot in the 12-team bracket.

But those who hope in the LORD will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint. Isaiah 40:31 (NIV)

You just answered your own question.

He's annoying and whining and he's using Texas' advantage to circumvent the system because his team didn't perform on the field.

There's nothing wrong with saying you believe you are one of the top 12 teams. As you said, every coach in his position would do that. But the way he is going about it is detrimental to the sport. He is literally trying to blackball the networks into strong-arming the committee to knock a more deserving school out of the playoff.

They are a bubble team. He is not trying to circumvent anything. Unless your position is they are not a bubble team, you can't expect him/them not to lobby for the spot.

Take the "they shoud'nt be this or that" out of your thought process. They ARE at #14. They beat #13 in a head to head. They have wins over #3, #6, and #9. Yest they have bad beats. That is why they are a bubble team.

As the penultimate rankings tonight, the Committee will definitely foreshadow what they want to happen in the final rankings next Sunday. They already know which teams they want, they just need to reverse engineer it. And these rankings tonight is a large part of that reverse engineering.

It's not a joke. It's $$$$. They make everyone a bunch of $$$$. Unless someone crushes their throat (guess who did'nt) they will be in the discussion. No amount of hand wringing will change that.

Ok, put them in at 12. Let them go on the road to play Oregon and then play OSU in the quarters. Let's see how that works out. Their road record is 2-3 and very, very close to 0-5.

For those bashing Sark for campaigning to get into the playoffs you're idiots. What exactly do you expect him to do? Just sit back and stay quiet? It's literally his job to defend them. And if the roles were reversed, Elko would be doing the exact same thing. You know it… you just won't admit it.

Yeah, the Florida game was a slip-up no doubt. And it'll probably cost them a playoff berth. But acting like close games are some unique flaw is ridiculous. Every team has them. Just look at the South Carolina and Arkansas games.

And here's what bothers me the most: what's the point of playing tough out-of-conference games early in the season like Ohio State or Notre Dame if the committee doesn't factor them in? If those don't matter, then the first three weeks might as well be the college version of NFL preseason

Why aren't we or Ohio State whining about early season OOC games?

Due to tie ins they aren't a bubble team at 14. They need to be at 10 to get in.

The conceit of their argument is that if they scheduled Sam Houston State (or whatever other garbage) at home instead of Ohio State on the road, then they'd be automatically in.

I don't think so. Because then they'd be 10-2 competing with a bunch of 10-2 teams for the last spot. Their schedule isn't THAT good. And their loss is REALLY bad. A 10-2 SEC team is already going to be left out. Even us, if we had lost to Notre Dame, we wouldn't be sniffing the playoff at 10-2.

They thought they were too good to play the B12 middle tier teams , they wanted better competition. Now they are crying about how the Florida loss shouldn't count against them? Typical

How long do you want to ignore this user?
It's because Ohio State and A&M aren't on the bubble. I get it.

If A&M doesn't come back on South Carolina, they absolutely are a bubble team. No doubt about it. And if that were the case, Elko would be campaigning his ass off too. As a fan, I'd want him campaigning his ass off. That's literally what you expect your coach to do.

But because Sark is a Longhorn, everybody takes offense to it.

The Big XII was jiggered and adjusted for the BCS with auto bids for conference champions. Once the regime was being changed, their calculus should have changed but it didn't.

But ultimately it came down to the lack of a conference network, made impossible by the LHN. SEC Network with A&M was so successful printing money for the member teams. Big XII no longer had any additional revenue options, again due to the existence of Dodds' Folly, the LHN.

Sips and Sooners did it to themselves.

Texas does not suck, they have 4/5 star talent up and down the roster. Arch does not suck. They can beat anyone in the country (same can be said for the Ags).

All that said... they lost 3 games and should not be in the CFP. We had a chance to crush the cock roaches but pooped the bed. So, just gonna have to deal with the Sark circus. He is doing exactly what you would expect your HC to do given the circumstances.

Reason. Logic. Has no place here.

The D-horns played three games in a row back to back to back this season that determined how good "Arch" and their team could be.

San Jose State
UTEP
Sam Houston State

Look, it is quite ok to play a cup cake or two but when you play three in a row, something stinks when you lose to Florida, get blown out by Georgia, and your best game of the year is at the end because you began the year with a loss to a good team so that isn't your best game.
classof92
How long do you want to ignore this user?
As I said, I get that part. But just answer this one question: if the South Carolina game was a loss, would you want Elko campaigning for a playoff spot? Because A&M would be a bubble team with a tough case to make there are several two-loss teams in the mix.

Don't you think he owes that respect to his players? And to the fans?

At the end of the day, I don't think Texas is making the playoffs either. But bashing Sark for campaigning for a playoff position is ridiculous. That's literally his job

This! Sips are finding out about the gauntlet that is the SEC schedule - especially road games. This ain't the Big 12. You wanted in the SEC, then you deal with the consequences.

Sark's efforts will not work. I posted this earlier on another post.

Here is what is going to happen for t.u. :

For the Citrus Bowl on Dec 31, with a 2pm CST kickoff in Orlando, Florida
Most analyst are picking a Michigan (Big 10) vs t.u. (SEC) matchup.

The Citrus Bowl is decided after the CFP committee selects its participants.
Once the remaining teams are officially available =
The Citrus Bowl gets the very first pick from both the SEC and Big Ten.

* USC is contractually bound to participate in the PAC 12 bowls for the 2025 season.

The outlets projecting who the Wolverines will compete against on New Year's Eve:

  • Sports Illustrated (Bryan Fischer): Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs. Texas
  • ESPN (Kyle Bonagura and Mark Schlabach): Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs. Texas
  • On3 (Brett McMurphy) : Cheez-It Citrus Bowl vs. Texas
