We lost a game so we need to blow everything up and start over.

On the contrary, we lost a game because we changed everything up from what was working. I'd like to go back to what we were doing.

Know what else got changed up? Reed's injury. Don't you think that had a little something to do with it? I damn sure bet the sips adjusted their defense because of it.

I do think we are underselling Marcel's injury. Just tell sips if only Marcel had not gotten hurt. They'll understand.

Then all the more reason not to drop him back over 40 times. Hand the damn ball off. Let those guys get in rhythm and hopefully pop one off. Instead we ran the ball two whole times on our first two possessions of the second half and they took the lead.

I only remember two TE targets and one reception, which was too few considering tu was down 2 LBs in the first half and one in the 2nd. If we would have done a better job spreading the field, it may have actually opened up some of those late throws so Reed wasn't throwing into triple / quadruple coverage.

his play against tu was very familiar to the early days of Reed. He through very few timing routes. Played much more like Johnny football and waited for recievers to get open before throwing

Owens needs less carries in the first half. He just goes down way too easy. Let him come in during the forth when the other team is a little more worn down so he can hopefully break a big one.

Klein is way too pass happy, so if that's what you mean by overreliance on Reed, then I agree.
Because our RBs average 3 yards a carry without Moss. It's almost a wasted down by handing it off without Moss on the field against good run-defenses.

I could be wrong but I believe our rushes the first three possessions of the 2nd half were for 7 and 9 yards leaving us with a 2nd and short and a third and short. We botched both and ended up with 3 straight 3 and outs to start the half.

It happened again. Reed dropped back over 50 times. Only handed the ball off 20 times. Just like the SCar and texas games. And the excuse is "we couldn't establish the run". No... we're not trying to establish the run. Or at least Klein isn't. Examples:

1st drive of the second half: 2 handoffs for 11 yards followed by 3 straight dropbacks (sack, 5 yards, INT).
2nd drive of the second half: 3 handoff for 12 yards followed by 3 straight dropbacks (sack, 7 yard, incomplete)

Go get a 1st down and immediately abandon the run. Miami got 7 sacks because they knew we wouldn't stick to the run. Last 3 games against real competition Klein put the entire game in Marcel's hands. We play 2 quarters of good offense and 10 quarters of terrible offense. Klein was just asking him to do way too damn much.

The last two games we've seen ~20 handoffs to backs vs 40+ drop backs/runs for Reed, and the offense is very hit and miss because of it. EJ and Owens were averaging a combined 4.5 yards per carry against Texas, so it's not like the run game wasn't working. But the default was to drop back anyway. Chunking it 30 yards down field on 3rd & 2? Handing off 3 times on 18 first quarter plays for 0 points? There are a ton of data points to share from the last two SEC games. I see two possibilities for why this is trending to a Reed dependent offense:

1. Coaches were trying to give him that Heisman moment. Coaches have vocalized their support for Reed's Heisman campaign, so consciously or subconsciously, they were trying to give him the best chance to go win the game and put on a show.

2. Coaches have slowly drifted into making Reed the reason we win or lose, essentially running into the problem LSU had of putting the win solely on Nuss's shoulders.

I hope the problem is #1, as that won't follow us into the playoffs. But if the problem is #2, it's very concerning. This isn't a knock on Reed, as I think he's played very well this season overall. But putting the offensive production squarely on his shoulders is very concerning. Very few college QBs are or have been capable of routinely winning when over 66% of the time it's a throw or QB run.

TLDR: We need to get back to handing the ball off again and winning as a team instead of making the QB the hero.

Reed being in the race for Heisman was never in the cards! He never had the consistency, it was obvious all season. Sure he had stats, but the last two games proved this. To add to the King-Weigman-Reed debate, A&M would had been better off with the King or Weigman. If handing the ball off is going to get yardage A&M needs an O-line and a heavy duty running back, neither of which is they have.

Owens averaged over 5 ypc this year. EJ was just under 5. We were able to run the ball when we committed to it. But the last few games Klein completely abandoned it and made Marcel 80% of the offense. Klein is to blame for the late season offensive collapse.
