We know Kiffin is intrinsically as deviant as freshwater mixing with saltwater. They will let him progress into full-blown Kurtz from Apocalypse Now. For a few years they'll be strong, but in about 6-8 years it will be a glorious flame-out, and the only thing better will be the reaction of fans and leadership. BTS will become a thing.

Lane will do well at LSU but will bounce to bama as soon as that job opens up.

He was at USC for 5-6 years as various assistants. The longest he's been a head coach is Ole Miss - this is his 6th season.

If he "flames out" in 6-8 years that will be an incredible stretch there.
That's longer than every LSU coach since 1980 not named Les Miles.

Lane at LSU is basically Lane at Ole Miss PLUS tier 1 resources and tier 1 recruiting opps. Kinda scary if you think about it... Comparing him to BK is silly... BK just doesn't translate to a good fit in the south period.

Lane is great at the transfer portal.

Not sure how he is at recruiting and evaluating talent in the HS level.

Yes he can recruit kids to lsu, but will he be another jimbo and get big names and stars, and they end up transferring.

Keeping his team, the football program, and the fanbase in limbo does more harm than good. If Kiffin agreed to an extension at Ole Miss, you'd have to believe they'd want that information out in the media to avoid the distraction this has created.
If you see what prominent Ole Miss boosters and media are putting out on social media, it's fair to say he's burned some bridges with the folks in Oxford. The fanbase is split between those begging him to stay and those wanting him to move on, because even he stays they might have to go through the same thing in the future. Players have been showing dissent on social media as well, the QB Chambliss released a statement today to rally the fans around the players and not the coach.

You really have to wonder if all of this is worth it just get one over on your rival.

I believe 1 of 2 scenarios are true:
1. Kiffin agreed to take the LSU (or Florida) job and informed the AD and chancellor in their meeting on Friday. All parties agreed to keep it silent until the end of the regular season
2. Kiffin is truly torn and does not know what he's going to do. Asked his AD and chancellor for an extra week to decide.
Either way, the harm this is doing greatly outweighs any notion that he's just trolling his rivals

Leaving out the 3 Florida Atlantic years, Kiffin has been a head coach 11 seasons. 4 of those were good. The other 7? Not so much. And as for resources? Did he not have resources at Tennesssee and USC? Ole Miss gave him a blank check for portal additions too! His schedule at Ole Miss has also been weak over the past 3 years. He is not a coach to be feared no matter where he is.

Ole miss really can be ideal. Will always have very good booster $ and devoted fan base that will accept winning seasons even if they dont make playoffs and only occasionally upset the big dogs like Bama. Never have to worry about if your time is up just because you miss the playoffs.

He's good enough to be a pain in the butt but I agree , he has no championship pedigree as a head coach.

lane kiffin is a very good coach who is getting better. i was not always a supporter of him as a coach but the ast few years he has done one heck of a job at ole
miss. he seems to be maturing as a coach.

personally he is lacking but as a coach he is one of the better ones in the country and if he goes to LSU that's goijg to be a problem. doesn't mean we can't and won't win our fair share but he is much better than BK. with LSU resources he won't be lacking for talent.

But if he stays at Ole Miss, he's writing his own history. They've already made the commitment of resources to keep him, and if he does what's expected, they'll eventually name half the school and half the town after him.

If he goes to LSU, he's just another coach that did it there.
Even if he goes to UF, he's just another coach that did it there.
He'd have to go on a Saban-like run to potentially eclipse the prior coaches that won it previously.

But if he stays at Ole Miss....that's blazing his own trail, planting his own flag.
Yes, coach Vaught won a shared Natty in 1960, and his name is on the field, but Kiffin's effect would far supercede him given that there's no such thing as a shared title anymore. Not to mention it was 65+ years ago.
