Agreed. Have been saying this for years. I wouldn't have a problem if we played anybody from this list:
SHSU, ACU, UTEP, UNT, UTSA, TX ST, SMU, TCU, PV, Tarleton, HCU, SFA, LamarKeep the $$$ in the state. I know we recently dropped Tarleton, but that game will still be played in the future.

My 2 cents
Peace for Ukraine!

Two positives:

1 - Allows seniors to play on senior day
2 - Keeps football programs alive at smaller schools

We thought we were scheduling Stanford, but there was a smudge in the roladex and the student worker who called them screwed up.

I can think of 550,000 reasons Samford "volunteered" to play A&M.

This! I have always felt these are more of exhibition games that help flow money from the big schools to the little schools.

And there is no reason to beat yourself up for all 12 games. The playoff structure isn't designed for that yet. When everyone does it, then the small out of conference games will go away

Pretty common in the SEC to have a late season cupcake game. It's essentially a bye.

Samford is better than the Deaf and Dumb institute.

The more things change, the more they stay the same.

So did we pay them $550,000 to come out here?

Would OP rather we played all our cupcakes at season start and saved ND to right before playing the sips?

Dumb question.

This is the only way we can get shut outs.
We give our B and C team some match practice.

I think this is a great idea late in the season!

Schedules are set years ahead. You can't decide today. Why schedule an FCS team?

Because for a long time, these schools were scheduled to "spread the wealth" and are paid 1-2 million to play the P5 teams. It pays for scholarships and the entire football program for some.

It is a away of supporting athletes and paying for the education of many athletes at these schools.

No one likes playing these games or watching them, but there were meant to serve as scrimmages to prepare the team for conference games but also help other programs bc of how much money these bigger schools make.

Logically these games are all in Sept. But then Sept became a boring month for football and wasn't bringing money/viewers until the conference matchups started.

The SEC has always had one cupcake randomly later in the season and didn't schedule them all before conference play.

Nick Saban used to be very vocal about not scheduling these types of games, but of course, I didn't see him dishing out any cash to these schools from his massive salary, or any other coach for that matter.

We need to find a better way to fund these schools. There are only 129 FCS schools, if the power five chipped in to give them $300,000 each that is less than 40 million dollars.

THe revenue for those conferences is:

  • Big Ten: $928 million (2023-24)
  • Southeastern Conference (SEC): $840 million (2023-24)
  • Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC): $707 million (2022-23)
  • Pacific-12 Conference (Pac-12): $580.9 million (2022)
  • Big 12 Conference: $480.6 million (2022)
It would be a drop in the bucket for them (1% of revenue from ALL conferences would more than cover it) plus adding additional in conference games or cross conference games would boost the value of the TV contracts and the whole thing might be a breakeven monetarily and better product for the fans.

These P4 vs FCS need to be eliminated.
Your opponents should all be FBS opponents.

And pretty much everyone schedules them.

These FCS schools depend on the payday they get when playing P4 schools.

FCS athletic budgets usually run in the red and these games help them out.

Affordable tickets so people who aren't as fortunate can attend a game.

Who the **** are some of you posters? Is this your first season of college football? Have you not noticed it is an SEC thing to toss in a patsy late in the season? It's exhausting, post tits and then go ask your husbands why.
