Just started reading it because... well reasons. The introduction has already got me hooked:

Quote:

Aggie Football history is a melodrama of its own. Trying to recreate the glory of one group of champions demands a review of a hundred years of good, and less satisfactory, times. Aggie grads and fans always look to the next season as a chance to once more fulfill all their yearnings.

They have come close many times; their elusive goal often foiled by just a few inches. Any Aggie will tell you that the team never lost a game they just ran out of time. That attitude covers over a century of Aggie Football...

The national championship will happen again, a conviction not always a comfort to Aggie fans, who want it NOW. The lofty expectations established by the 1939 championship team screams for a repeat.

Here's to the 2025 Texas Aggies and the hope that "next year" is finally here!

Idk I'm kinda scared that if we win another world war will break out.

2006, so far full of errors about the 1967 season in the intro. Opinion is starting to change.

Honest question: what is the nature of the errors you have identified? I generally associate Mickey Herskowitz with solid sports reporting/writing.

I'm prepared to go bomb Germany for a national championship. Plus revenge for what they did to the moon.

No mention of him.

The writing is good and the story compelling but the off putting facts all on page 14 that he got wrong just about the 1967 team are:

1) He says the team went to see the movie Watering Hole Number Four the night before the Texas Tech game. It was really named Water Hole #3 (not a biggie)

2) But then he says the star of the movie was Lee Marvin; it was James Coburn.

3) He says the final score of the 1968 Cotton Bowl was 16-7, it was 20-16.

Makes me wonder what other sloppy facts are in the book.

I more concerned that a world war will break out before the championship game if we make it, and therefore not allowed to play it.
