That's awesome if true and the mark of a good leader that coordinators and players want to be around

Less guaranteed for Elko but with incentives and huge difference in supporting coaches salaries, facilities, conditioning, etc - All those are needed to make Elko successful; he's a smart cookie.

Wise choice. A bump in salary would have come with the risk of trying to rebuild a program almost instantly. Make things better here and he enjoys more job security. He's likely to earn some of those incentives this year as well.

We're paying Elko $12m/year now under the new contract before incentives. I guess Penn St offered 13/yr.

So Coach took less to pay the staff, im sure if he wanted 13 mil we would have paid and the staff got less. Elko did his assistants right.

Rumor is 11.5 annually averaged.

The contract structure is reported as a six year extension but KBTX reported a two year extensions immediately upped presumably at end of year since previous was six, second year almost compete, two years added and ends in 2031. But I'll note the number I had projected was $15 million so he took a 3:5 million hometown discount…

I'll add his value to is higher right now than if he wins an NC.

That doesn't scare me like it would have 5 or 10 years ago.

At some point, the money to any coach is just so they measure at coaches conventions. The staff and NIL and staff compensation are really what insures success.

I think most of us (or at least a lot) understood that this would not come down to highest salary for Elko. He's way too bright to be somewhere just for the money.

He's very, very, very smart…

State income tax is probably a major concern.

While Pennsylvania went red nationally in 2024, its still a still a blue state, with blue policies.

Josh Pate has the perfect reasoned logic around the coaching market when people speak in absolutes about one job vs another. Candidates don't just pick what the media or random internet people think is an "obvious choice". They are unique individuals who value different things. All things equal, this whole thing could have been that his wife doesn't want to be in the cold weather anymore. Who the hell really knows?
