The new bracket, imo, gives Georgia the best draw even though they are the lowest top seed

Well we might be at 4 in the final ranking after the SEC champ game so you might get your wish.

I haven't played around with the tools that tell you who might make the SEC championship games, but let's say it's us vs. Bama and we lose....I'm assuming the committe would move Georgia ahead of us, but would they drop us out of the top 4? For example, put Tech in at #4 if they win the Big12?

They might and I think that is a load of BS.

I mean Tech lost to ASU who Miss St beat.

Tech's loss to ASU came on a TD in the last 40 seconds on the road without QB1, all-conference nose tackle and all-conference TE. Understanding that I'm a Tech homer, I still wouldn't read too much into that loss. The committee clearly isn't.

The committee won't punish close CCG losses regardless. And the committee loves the SEC, as is apparent by their willingness to let very good BYU and Utah teams sit out in favor of a 5th SEC team.

Don't sweat it. It will work itself out.

For my part, I would rather Tech stay at 5. If I recall correctly, all four teams with byes lost last year.

not sure what path will be taken to get there but somehow I feel were gonna see an A&M vs Texas Tech Cotton Bowl.

The final top 4 is going to be this assuming the top 4 seeds win out.

1 Big 10 champ winner
2 SEC champ winner
3 Big 10 champ loser
4 SEC champ loser

I know Tech is good but sure looks like #4 Georgia would get the easiest first round game of the bye teams if that was the bracket.

Tech grad chiming in here.

I think A&M wants in at 3. Tech is better than Miami and Ole Miss. By a lot. Add all the coaching drama with Ole Miss and you'll do well against either of those.

Georgia looks very good and I would rather Tech line up against IU or OSU than Georgia. But Tech will give Georgia all it wants, should the current bracket come to pass (which it won't).

Congrats to you Ags on an incredible season so far. Hope we get to play you at some point.

That's what it should be, but I've watched CFB too long to expect logic to be the deciding factor in these things.

Ohio State, Georgia, and Notre Dame are the teams to avoid in the 1st or 2nd round

would not consider those favorable matchups

To be fair I have not seen Tech play much this year. But I think the SEC is a much tougher conf. Don't see how you can think Tech is way better than Miami and Ole Miss. But maybe we will find out.

Off on a tangent but you said Tech was without qb1 against ASU so that loss shouldn't count much. But I find that funny as Penn State was without their QB1 but Indiana got all kinds of kudos for beating them.

I don't see the bracket changing much if the teams in it win out. Only possible changes are the last two spots.

ACC winner in over Miami
Whomever in G5 ends up highest.

They are setting this up with the following possible quarterfinal games.

Ohio State Notre Dame in Rose Bowl
A&M Tech in Cotton
Georgia Oregon or Bama in Sugar
Indiana Ole Miss in Orange

Getting a G5 team in the first round feels kind of like a bye.

Can they win a game, sure. But let's be honest, if you lose to a G5 team you weren't going to win the natty anyway.

We will not stay at 3.

Win SEC we will be 2
Lose champ game 4

Assuming teams take care of business. Tech will be playing either A&M or Georgia in quarterfinal.

Congrats on Tech's season. I haven't watched them much but will tune in if they are in the Big 12 champ game.

I have a feeling the committee would love to match up Tech vs A&M if they are able to.

Tech has the best defensive front 7 in the nation. Two unanimous mid-season All Americans and four consensus. Rodriguez is the #1 graded player in the country per PFF, on offense or defense. David Bailey has more sacks that Georgia. There will be two or maybe three first round draft picks from that team, and four will be drafted at some point.

Tech has a balanced top 10 offense with a power running threat and top 10 defense. #1 against the run, #3 scoring, etc... Tech hasn't been winning games - they have been destroying everyone in their path, with the sad exception of the ASU game as mentioned. Tech blew out #11 at home and #12 on the road. If you haven't watched this Tech team, you're missing out on something pretty cool.

Tech could absolutely lose to any team in the quarterfinals. But that could be said of any team, I think. Regardless, this Tech team doesn't resemble any Tech team you've ever seen. It's easily the best Tech team that Tech's ever fielded. It's not even close, in my humble estimation. This defense especially is incredible.

For my part, A&M worries me more than any other team in the top 10 because of Reed. Tech has had a hard time with dual threat QBs this year. Tech's won games this year by grinding down the other team. A&M's offense would be the best Tech has faced.

In review of tonight's rankings, I think we had better beat Texas and get to Atlanta, since I don't trust this crazy system of comparing apples, oranges, bananas , peaches and pears etc. There is too much opportunity for existing bias !

That's wild that Tulane is now projected to be in the playoff before Houston, after UH spent so much effort and money to leave the American conference for the BigXII - for a shot at the playoffs - and hired Willy Fritz away from Tulane.

I am not a Coog fan, but in their defense, they are now in the top 25 in the AP and Coaches' polls, and have a (gasp) legitimate shot at a 10 win season this year.

Now if they could just manage to sell out a few games at that stadium situated in the 4th largest city in the nation.... what an embarrassment that is.

I've watched Tech a couple of times this year and they looked really good. Would be an interesting matchup if we meet you guys at some point.

Tceh is 100% better than Miami. They might be able to out-physical OM too. Tceh has some dawgs on the lines.

Only if Alabama loses to Auburn, if they win that game they will be in the SEC championship and will not get a first round bye win or lose, they will have 2-3 losses.

Bama is not guaranteed playing in SEC champ game. Even if they beat Auburn.

It appears it will be A&M and Georgia if we win out.

Bama has the head to head with Georgia and only 1 SEC loss. They get the tie breaker.

I know

But that's not the tiebreaker. It's some strength of schedule metric. And SEC network at this time thinks it will be Georgia.

How long do you want to ignore this user?
SEC championship tiebreaker criteria:
  • Head-to-head competition: The results of games played directly between the tied teams are evaluated first.
  • Record vs. common opponents: The record against all common opponents in the SEC is compared.
  • Record vs. highest-ranked common opponent: The record against the highest-ranked common opponent is compared first, and this process continues through the rest of the SEC standings.
  • Cumulative conference winning percentage: The winning percentage of all conference opponents for each of the tied teams is calculated.
  • Capped relative total scoring margin: The margin of victory/defeat against all conference opponents is factored in, but with a cap on the total points.
  • Random draw: If a tie remains after all other criteria, a random draw is used to determine the final ranking.

Has Tech even played a half decent OL? How do we know that Dline is actually good if all they've done is beat up on Oklahoma State, undersized and low talent Utah and BYU, and the rest of the mediocre Big 12?

Utah and BYU OLs are not undersized or low talent

Utah has perhaps the best two tackle combo in college football and is top 5 ranked by Lindy's, Athlon, NYT and PFF. They will have two guys drafted, one of them likely high in the first round. Tech smoked them.

You know, this sort of comment just isn't well thought out. Jacob Rodriguez is the top graded player by PFF in the nation overall, offense or defense. He has forced more turnovers this year than Ohio State. David Bailey has more sacks than Georgia. The whole team. Bailey and Rodriguez are both named finalists for the Lombardi award (as was Cashius Howell - congrats). There are four finalists for that award. Two are from the SEC. The other two are from Tech. Tech has two unanimous mid-season All Americans and 2 more consensus All Americans, all on the defensive front seven, and that's twice as many as the next closest team.

Tech made big news in the off-season for "buying a defense". They scored the second rated class in the transfer portal. Why should it come as a shock that they might be pretty damn good?

I don't get it. But that's all I'm going to say since this is an Aggie forum. Congrats on a truly stellar season. I hope Tech gets a chance to play the Ags this year, and hopefully in the final.

Here's what they posted showing SOS will determined whether Bama or Georgia make the champ game.

SEC Championship game scenarios:
Georgia:
-Alabama loss OR
-Texas A&M loss OR
-Ole Miss win & win SOS over Alabama

Alabama:
-Win + Texas A&M loss OR
-Win + Ole Miss loss OR
-Win + win SOS over Georgia

Texas A&M:
-Win OR
-Alabama loss + Ole Miss loss
