I haven't seen any threads about how fat he is, so everybody must be on board at this point.

We are a few plays away from being 7-3 at best. Whether those plays were made due to Elko's coaching is impossible to say. But when you are 10-0, it doesn't really matter how you got there, you are currenlty the guy.

Arkansas is only 25 pts away from being UNDEFEATED!

At one time, people thought that the following coaches were "THE guys", too:
  • Larry Coker
  • Gene Chizik
  • Ed Orgeron
  • Les Miles
That said, my sole criterion for a successful season was making the playoffs, and Coach Elko has achieved that. So, taking it one year at a time, I am happy with 2025.

I remember when Franchione was THE guy, freshly poached from Bama.

But, yes, I do believe that Elko truly is THE guy this time around.

But if those plays don't happen next season, then things will start changing. Which is the circle of modern college football coaching. But for anyone saying he is currently not the guy, is an idiot.

The plays were made due to the talent Elko brought in, the strength coach and other coaches he hired, the culture he has instilled, and his coaching of the team.

At Notre Dame, Boerkircher, a TE Elko brought in from the portal, made the game winning catch in a 1 on 1 matchup schemed by Klein, after a 4th quarter drive all the way down the field orchestrated by Klein and carried out by players who were executing at a high level and conditioned well enough to be at their best with 2 minutes to go in the game. Reed also made a great throw.

The South Carolina game…we were down 30-3 and could have easily won that game 38-30. If you don't think what happened in the second half was all-around high level execution as a result of coaching, I don't know what to tell you. And dropping Howell back to spy Sellers on the final 4th down, which directly resulted in us winning the game….that was a defensive call made by Elko. If Howell had rushed upfield, Hicks was the only guy with a shot at Sellers, and he would have been outrun.

I don't know what other games you're referring to that we could have lost. We were up by 10 against Arkansas u til they scored a meaningless TD. We controlled that game and every other game.

Honest answer: I don't know, and neither do you. It has barely been two seasons. People were saying the same thing about Jimbo after the 2020 season.

Whether he's "the guy" or not, I agree he is currently having a good year and recruiting very well, and therefore based on everything we know at this point, we made the right decision to pay him market rate and keep him here.

But whether he ultimately wins a championship and/or succeeds here at the level that will make him "the guy"….who knows.

Game 1 of Jimbo was the most boring, uninspired football I had ever seen. Like we were trying to make the games as unenjoyable as possible. His locker room speeches were snooze fests. 2020 was a good year, but it did not feel the same as this one. Mike has stayed true on his message from his opening press conference. Nothing has changed. He talked about building a culture and did it. Quickly. He talked about stressing all offseason to finish this year. So far so good. And we are never out of a game. He's honest, direct, and squeezing as much as possible out of every player. You never got that feeling with Jimbo.
