Yeah that seems like a great fit to me. I think VT is one of the most underperforming programs out there (not as bad as UCLA but still...), given its history and fanbase. Go Hokies!

Makes all the sense in the world, but I had the feeling he was holding out for a better job. Not sure what happened there but that should be a great hire for VT. Would like to see them get good again.

Message board rumors believe he was holding out for FSU. FSU never made the move and VT put a deadline on the offer.

Probably the best hire they could have made within reason. I expect VT to have a pretty big turnaround within the next few years

I disagree with those of you saying Franklin is a good hire. He is mediocre.

Penn State actually had better win % the 9 years prior to Franklin (including some years right after scandal where players left) and better record 50 years prior to Franklin. Not like he turned around anything.

I'm sorry, but I just don't see jimbo ending up at any decent name anymore. Seems like the want for these schools now is more on the 'younger' end of things, and jimbo doesn't fit that anymore, imo. (He's 60)

Yes, I am bitter. PSU my 2nd fav school behind A&M. Don't worry A&M always my favorite. (I graduated A&M and got masters at Penn State.) About 90% of Penn State fans are so happy he is gone. That should tell you something.

Pretty good recruiter but always had to have best talent to win games. Terrible in-game coach.

VT more happy with bowl appearances. VT had a streak going for 27 years and Beamer was there for a long time.

As long as Franklin beats VA and make a bowl game, he's golden. Good place for him to land at.

I find it kind of funny that Brent Pry served under Franklin for 11 years.

That didn't work out so well so now they go with Franklin.

I didn't really answer your question previously as I don't know all the possibilities. But how about Bob Chesney, head coach James Madison, record of 126-51 including 7 conf titles.

Vermont seems like a big step down, but I wish him well.

I don't know man. Franklin appears to have done slightly better than school expectations - especially in a post-scandal environment. I know he struggled in big games, but he pretty much matched or exceeded the last decade of JoPa.

I was kind of hoping he'd end up at LSU. Had no reason to think he would but hey, they hired Brian Kelly.

We'll see. Remember, way back in increasingly Old Army days, this very forum was nearly orgasmic over how we fired mediocre R.C. and hired the great savior of Alabama football, Fran.

Sometimes the guy fans thought was mediocre doesn't look quite as mediocre a few years later. Probably 90% of the time, the fanbase thinks they are upgrading mediocrity at the time a guy gets fired. (And the 10% usually involves a scandal or thinking with the little head downstairs).
