What if that play call ends up being the reason he doesn't get a major HC offer. Will some of you be glad that he still has some growing to do here at A&M

Yeah that play really pissed me off. And the play before that honestly if Marcel had done one of his cool fake handoffs, he could run around the right-side unmolested.

Every time I start to like Klein he does something weird like that.

Also it was the second time in the game we decided to throw the ball backwards to the other team. Nope, the first one you are thinking of was supposed to be a forward pass to the TE but the TE whiffed on a chip block on the DE and he came in and blew up the play and knocked the ball out. They could have scooped that up and won the game.

I would've just pounded EJ up the middle again and then again on 4th down if he didn't make it in 3rd down.

Do that and the game is over.

While in theory, I completely agree with you. However, you need look no further than last year's game against the sips (repeatedly) to see that it doesn't always turn out that way. Then all of the Monday (Sunday) morning OCs would be dogging you for not calling something else that works.

Agreed. Could also kick the FG on 4th for a 4 point lead so they can't win on a walk off FG but really you do that when it's on the 3-5 yard line, the 1 yard line, 2 runs.

Also, we need to go back to having some under center I formation and full house backfield plays. 2 plates there would have been the ideal scenario to do so.

1st and Goal from 1: stuffed

Im guessing Klein lost confidence in the oline. This isn't the first time hes ran some crazy play at the Goal line after failing to run it in. Its the first time though his tricky play calling didnt work in these situations. The others resulted in touchdowns

Not exactly

"
4:32 - 4th
No Huddle-Shotgun #22 E.Smith rush middle for 4 yards gain to the USC01 (#44 M.Goodwine)
1st & Goal at SC 5

3:55 - 4th
No Huddle-Shotgun #22 E.Smith rush middle for 0 yards to the USC01 (#17 J.Okoronkwo; #0 F.Johnson)
2nd & Goal at SC 1"

If the play had worked as planned everyone would be saying he was a genius to call it.

Nope. It was getting cute at the goal line and stupid.

Klein was exceptional the entire game. We had guys open everywhere all game

That play call was questionable in the situation but I'm glad he has the balls to call the play that gets him labeled a genius or idiot.

Just another bump wondering what the hell that play was.

That damn near lost the game in any number of different ways. SC could have run it back, they could have kicked a field goal as time expired… etc etc.

Glad our defense bailed us out but wow. WTF were they thinking.

yes, that play call was a mistake

I liked the call, Morrow simply effed it up and should have kept the ball and not try to pitch. Freshman mistake.

Except that's exactly what was wrong with the call. You're putting a freshman RB in a critical situation he's never in. You're increasing the likelihood of a mistake by about 1,000x when the risk / reward simply is not there.

I don't disagree with all you said

but Elko knew Klein screwed up when he said wtf 4-5 times because of stupid call Klein chose to run on goal line

I suspect, Elko let Klein have mostly free reign and not micromanage every play?

ps, stupid call Klein makes at goal line last year and this year are too numerous to count

I actually think he said, "F me! F me! F me!"

Honestly. I know they answered this in the post game. But it needs to continue to be brought up. That was an absolutely insane inexcusable play call.

People keep saying "if it had worked you would have you would call him genius".

No. If it worked I would say "wow WTF was that!? Glad we're winning though I guess."

No, you are wrong and what you wrote is misleading. Only 1 stuff.

1st and goal from 5: 4 yards by Smith
2nd and 1: stuffed

Run Smith at least 1 more time and he gets in!

You're right. I went and looked at the drive chart. Im not so sure he gets in though. At 4th and goal this same Oline didn't get the push against Miss St.

I believe it was UTSA that he had to pull out some misdirection play at goal line after struggling to run it in

We'll never know though

Couple of things I disagree with you on when you are comparing to not scoring at the 1 against Miss St.

  • Against Miss St that was in the 1st half. The SC Defense was so tired defending the entire 2nd half, they were worn down. You don't get cute in that situation, you pound the rock.
  • Against Miss St, we ran Owens. Smith is our pounder with Moss out. Run Smith! Smith should be our short yardage back!

It was first and goal from the 5 We gained 4 yards on first down got another half yard on second. That is not exactly "stuffed"

counterpoint:

3rd down: 1/16 yd
4th down: 1/128 yd

it was a mistake that ultimately didn't cost us the game, and as long as CK learns from it, as does Elko, I'm glad it occurred during a W.

Enough where Boerkircher has 3 carries and we know what the package looks like. I bet we've shown it 8-10 times this season at least.

We struggle at executing these plays, but they are super creative. The dropped one against Auburn (?) last year was a pretty sweet play.
